Labetalol was first given to me to treat hypertension ranging from 140/90 to 161/105 and was highly effective in lowering it to normal levels under 120/80. The downside to it was extreme fatigue. I actually have to take 50 mg twice a day even though the lowest dose is 100 mg. (I have to take 2 half pills per day)The 100 mg twice per day was too much for me and caused extreme dizziness and I felt a...

Started at 100mg BID now I am up to 600mg BID with very little decrease in my BP. Has not been affective for me. Not sure if I am experiencing side effects of itchy scalp and tingleness in my scalp. It's excessive and started when I started this medication.

This medicine makes me feel worse than my high blood pressure and it doesn't bring it down enough for me to feel like this. Dizzy, light-headed, constipated, headache, and just an overall feeling of yuck. I have been taking 200mg 2x daily for the past month and a half. I am 2 months postpartum and was diagnosed with preeclampsia at the third trimester so when it didn't come down after delivery my ob put me on this as it was safe for breastfeeding. It dried me up so I am no longer breastfeeding and she has sent me to my regular doctor to find something that will work better for me. Read More Read Less

I have been taking this medication for about a month for High Blood Pressure, 260/189. It has brought it down alot. This medication in combination with Amlodipine does have slight side effects, but nothing to drastic. I monitor my BP daily.

Crazy how medications can affect people in so many different ways, but it's not proper for people to warn others against using. This drug can help some people very much. I was on stupid amounts of Clonidine and replacing it with this drug has definitely made a difference for the better. High blood pressure can be tough to control when so many different things can cause it. A good Doc will find out WHY blood pressure is high and look for the underlying problem rather than just treat the symptoms. Make sure your Doc is not just a prescription writer if you want good healthy results from ANY medication that may be prescribed. My case is fairly severe and I am taking 1200 mg a day at present. Hopefully this can be adjusted out in taking less soon. I am well on my way to better health since getting off the Clonidine which is addictive and causes severe blood pressure rebound and really bad side effects for me.Read More Read Less

Labetalol has done a wonderful job keeping my blood pressure as close to normal as it will ever be. When I first started using it, I did notice a slight calming effect, most likely due to the decrease in heart-rate. And of course the scalp tingling, which to me is just an added benefit (but it goes away after awhile of using it)

I just asked my Dr to take me off this drug. I never felt well even tho we cut back my dosage (then my BP elevated again) I felt like a truck had just run over me, dry cotton mouth, no energy and short of breath - that was the last straw. I need an RX but everything seems to make me feel like a dish rag.

Have been taking this for 4 months now. At first the only issue I had was tingling and itchy scalp. Now in the past month I am getting headaches, nausea and being tired. I've tried many drugs over the years and some have made me down right ill. I am wondering now about labetalol and whether I'll be able to continue taking it. The pharmaceutical companies make me so angry that they can market drugs that seem to do more harm then good.

I went on this medication to control my apparent high BP. The reason I started on it was because I had gone into the hospital due to having a miscarriage. The doctor there made sure I was on it. I started in November 2013 and by February/March, I started looking and feeling different. A few family members said I looked tired and exhausted. I never thought anything much of it as I am a mom, wife and work full time. In mid-April, I started noticing really dark urine. I saw my doctor in early May when my husband noticed the whites in my eye were really yellow. I had the following: persistent nausea, yellowing eyes/skin, dark urine. I persisted for my doctor to check the side effects of this medication but he kept saying it is rare. Finally, he had me weened off the medication and now I am dealing with bringing my bilirubin and ALT levels down as much as I can. I will never go on this unneeded medication again after having a severe reaction to it. My biggest fear is that I will have liver damage. Do yourselves a favor and get tested once a month to ensure your not the 1% that has a severe reaction. PS: I bought a blood pressure machine in February and since I've been off the meds, my BP has been great. Read More Read Less
