I have cluster headaches, which are considered a type of migraine. I'm 77, and have had them for 10 years, almost one a day. I take a combination of verapamil, lithium carbonate and gabapentin as preventives, but all they do is limit the severity (say 4,instead of 8 on 1 to 10 scale). I take Excedrine Migraine as my first abortive medicine; it works within 1 to 2 hours maybe 4 out of five times. W...

I've never had a migraine before a few days ago. I am a nursing student and was in the library and when I looked at the computer screen it looked like I was "seeing stars", (those black dots you see if a flash goes off in your eyes) very faintly. This lasted about a half an hour and then I had the worst headache of my life. My left temple kept throbbing and I had sharp pains when I looked around or moved my head. I looked it up online and it sounded like a migraine. I tried excedrin migraine and it worked really well for me. Within about a half an hour after taking it the throbbing in my head had decreased and I felt ok for the rest of the night, aside from the occasional sharp pain. The same thing happened the following day and I took the medicine and again, it relieved my pain. Some people mention on here there was a recall and after it wasn't as effective for some them. I looked into the matter and the recall had to do with broken and stray tablets. The ingredients remains the same, 250mg acetaminophen, 250mg aspirin, and 65 mg of caffeine. Read More Read Less

Before the recall, Excedrine Migraine worked quickly and effectively on my headaches. I was thrilled when it finally came back on the market, only to find that the formula must have been changed. I have to take 2 pills for even a modest reduction of pain. I never had to take more than one of the original formula. The company blew it when they dropped their QuickTabs a few years ago. They were a sublingual form and could get rid of the worst headaches within 2-3 minutes with no stomach upset. I wish I had horded them when they were available! Now I have to find something else again...I don't like having to take 2 tablets. Read More Read Less

Excedrin is the only medication available to me for migraines. It works great for 3-4 hours and then the migraine comes back. On top of that, the Excedrin and other like OTC's shred my stomach up and I end up having a painful stomach, trying to coat with yogurt. Sometimes the caffeine is a bit too much and I have to counter it's effects with diphenhydramine.

I have been waiting for others to post - and I see we are mostly in agreement. The "new" Excedrin must have been changed. It does not work like the "old" Excedrin did. My headaches were gone in 10 minutes... now they linger for about an hour, IF they go away. I, too, must look for another pain reliever for headaches, after 40 years with this pill.

Before the recall, Excedrin worked about as well as prescriptions. Now, the benefit is marginal.

I loved this pill and then it got recalled. The new pill is no where near as effective. They took something out of the new pill. I am back searching for an OTC migrane relief pill.

This product was very, very effective before the recall. My headaches were gone a matter of minutes after taking the product. However, now that it has returned it does not work at all. It is almost like during the recall the medicine was changed and whatever ingredient that made the medicine so effective has been removed.

As headache relief this medication works very well. The one drawback is the indigestion it causes as an aftereffect later. That requires me to take antiacid medication and pain medication and often lasts into the next day. Unknown what it is in the Excedrin medication that creates this or if it is some combination of the migraine itself with the medication that causes it but it is very unpleasant, almost worse than having the headache.

Excedrin Migraine does not work for me even with a headache less than a migraine. Excedrin extra strength is the only thing that works. For a migraine already in action, forget it. Nothing works

I took 1 Excedrin Xtra strength for severe Sinus Pain. 30 minutes later I started getting severe stomacn pain, just under my ribcage. After 2 hours of pain it started getting more intense and into a throbbing stomach pain. I took 4 tums plus Pepto Bismol and the stomach pain lessened, I still have heartburn and a dull achy pain under my ribcage, it hurts to touch it also. Most of sinus pain is gone but was replaced by this weird stomach pain. I almost went to the ER but will get it checked out by my Dr. I wont be taking Excedrin again.Read More Read Less

Of the different brands of over the counter migraine medications on the market; this one is definitely the strongest. But with a caffeine content in two tablets higher than an energy drink I ALWAYS make sure to follow the instructions and take it with a full 12oz glass of water and not on an empty stomach (if I can help it). I only take this medicine when my prescribed medicine is not available to me and never stacked with anything else. With most migraines its important to take right at onset for effectiveness, but this usually will take the edge off even after an hour into it if you take it and go to sleep for a while. Side effects I've felt included light headed-ness and shaky hands. I've also experienced a rapid pulse and over frequent urination due to this medication. However I look at the side effects verses the condition I take it for; I have to take SOMETHING for my migraines when they onset or I end up bedridden in pain. If you are not experiencing a migraine headache then do not take excedrin MIGRAINE (I've read several negative reviews of this product saying they took it for other types of head pain including sinus headache, tension headache, back pain, ect and then were disappointed that this product did not help them); this product is for migraines specifically. As for the rebound headaches, it's best to try to stave those off with something weaker like ibprofen (anything that lacks caffeine)- asking your doctor of course. This product is NOT the same as tylenol either (as I read another person post), similar in what they do and ingredients but they are NOT the same. Tylenol's active ingredient is paracetamol for example, where Excedrin is acetaminophen, aspirin, and caffeine. Such wrongful information could harm, or even kill some one with an allergy (please do some research before submitting false statements in reviews). All in all its not optimal; but it IS the strongest you get without a prescription. Read More Read Less
