I have had no problems with this pill. A headache now and then but that's normal for me. I have spotting sometimes depending on if I remembered to take the pill on time. I used to take tricyclin and I was emotional as ever. With this, I am not emotional just around my period. I've been taking it for 4 months now, and so far so good.

I had been taking Loestrin 24 FE for a while and when I got my prescription via mail order pharmacy they sent me this. I was totally against it, but called my dr. who advised it was fine. So, I took it for 3 months. I had breakthrough bleeding every week prior to my period starting, for a week. So, it was like having my period for 1.5-2 weeks. Also, in hindsight I see that I had terrible mood swin...

When I was first put on Junel I had the 20mg dosage, it caused a very dark discharge for me, I was immediately taken off it. Then my family doctor referred me to a GYN, who thought maybe the dosage is two low so he up-ed it to 30mg dosage, I continue to have this dark discharge and recently, I've developed cysts on my ovaries, one complex cyst on my left, and a hemmorhagic cyst on my right, this was a complete shock to my GYN, because Junel is supposed to stop me from ovulating, which it didn't because I wouldn't have cysts if it did, now I'm scheduled for surgery and I'm still having the dark discharges, my GYN is going to put me on another brand because Junel does not work.Read More Read Less

I started this pill just over a week ago. I am already completly crazy. I had to take ZANEX to counter act the mood swing side effects of Junel. I hate pills, and to need a mind altering drug to help me with my BC side effects is unacceptable. I have been feeling like hiding latley. I am sometimes picking fights and feel very unhappy and worried. I am dweling on things that are insignifigant. In addition, the first week (last week) I had to leave work early from stomach achs and on my way home I had to pull over my car from a muscle spasm in my stomach that was unbearable. I have never experienced anything like it. I would never stop BC mid cycle, but I dont think 2 more weeks on this is good for my mental health, it seems unsafe to continue. I am 27 and I previously took Nuva Ring. I changed because of Migraines.Read More Read Less

This is my first time using BC I am a 25 year old female and I finished the last pill yesterday 1/12/12. The following is my personal experience. I have not been feeling like myself lately and decided to look up Junels side effects and reviews. I am extremely glad I did because I thought something was wrong with me. I kept asking myself everyday what’s wrong with me lately. My mood has changed and I feel blah towards everything. My moods are like a roller coaster but mostly downer moods. I have migraines everyday and developed a yeast infection as well. I noticed my urine would be darker sometimes too. My boyfriend has even felt neglected and sexually deprived. Normally I have a high sex drive; that sign alone I knew something was wrong. Today is day 5 of NO sex. I have absolutely ZERO desire. It has decreased from sex from everyday (when I wasn’t on BC) to gradually decreasing to nothing. I don’t have the want or get turned on for sex and even have vaginal dryness. I have been told I lost weight but I beg to differ I feel I have gained weight. I had difficulty remembering to take the pill daily too. I’m glad other women have posted their experiences on Junel; I now understand I am not the only one feeling crazy on this pill! Before using Junel I was recently pregnant and gave birth to a beautiful baby boy but born stillborn on 11/13/12. I do not like the moods Junel makes you feel. I have enough emotions enduring the loss of my first born. Once my menstrual cycle started my doctor told me to start the pills on the 2nd day of my period. I do not recommend it and I will discontinue the use. Please discuss with your doctor thoroughly before taking this method of BC. -First and Last time User!Read More Read Less

I've taken many kinds of birth controls for many years due to irregular cycles, and this is by far the worst kind out there. Every generic BC I've tried has always given me the worst side effects, and they claim that it's the same as the original, but let me tell you all readers-- it is absolutely NOT. The moment I started taking them my skin was breaking out like crazy, and because of this pill my face is terrible, I really would like to write a letter to my new gyno for telling me that this is the best kind for me. Basically the lesson is, if you are looking to clear your acne, Yasmin or any BC with high estrogens will clear it all, guaranteed, though I did gain about 15 to 20 lbs. the more I took the high estrogen ones. I took Junel so that I won't have the weight gain side effect, and its true I did not gain much, but its all the same thing anyways and I should've known that low progesterone pills causes acne. So please take my advice, DO NOT TAKE JUNEL OR ANY GENERIC BRAND, and if you are on it and are afraid to get these effects, GET OFF now or you will suffer. I'm not meaning to scare anyone, I am truly against BC for so many hormonal reasons and side effects and care about others who go through what I go through.Read More Read Less

I have been on this pill for almost 5 months now...aside from the god awful side effects I have tried to stick it out and with that said I am calling my doctor and getting switched back to kariva. Since I have been on this I have had the following symptoms: severe nausea(sometimes vomiting), heart racing(I am 22 and feel like I am going to have a heart attack any day now!), migraines, general ill feeling, dizziness, longer periods then before, haven't been able to take my vitamins..etc.. I'm not saying nobody should ever take it, but definitely think hard before making the switch! I have never been more miserable in my life and cannot wait to go back to normal!!! Read More Read Less

I have only taken 10 of these pills and I'm already seeing side effects. I've lost my sex drive. I feel so depressed all of the sudden, I'm crying trying to type this. I was laughing and giddy about an hour ago. Every little thing that people do has been bothering me for the past three days. I'm having a hard time smiling and that's not like me. I constantly am happy and generally always in a good mood. I don't recommend these pills to anyone. If you are on them go off immediately!! I'm never taking them again.Read More Read Less

I was taking Microgestin for years, which is a generic brand of Loestrin. Then one day at the pharmacy, they switched it to Junel because Microgestin was no longer available, they said it was the exact same thing. This pill gave me awful migraines (which I've never had in my life), and placed me in the hospital. I had many mood swings, weight gain, etc. I discontinued using Junel.. as soon as I did that, the migraines stopped. I've never had any problems with any other pill... this one was by far the worst. I am waiting to finish my 1 month packet because I am switching BCs. I cannot take it anymore! I am dizzy, sore, nauseous, overly-sensitive, unfocused, & tired all the time. It has made me very emotional and bipolar. One minute I am crying excessively over stupid things and the next thing you know I hate everyone. Yesterday, I was looking for a laptop online and this customer service lady popped up, and I got so angry at her for showing up! Also, I have started swearing constantly, but I can't stop it! Do not take this...unless you want to be pissed off at the world and cry at the same time.Read More Read Less

Needless to say I will NEVER take this medication again. Yes, it is cheaper, but to me the difference in price is definitely worth it. You get what you pay for - just remember that. I am back on Loestrin 24 FE and in 48 hours have already noticed a difference in skin clarity, mood, weight, and sex drive. Read More Read Less

I've been taking Junel for about three weeks now, and within the first few days of taking it, my acne got about five times worse than it's been in about 3 years (my acne's usually moderate, it's not horrible but it's pretty bad sometimes). This is the first birth control I've ever been on, and I've only heard that birth control lessens acne, so I don't understand why that happened. Other than that, I haven't had any side effects besides being a little irritable and my breats are swollen (which isn't exactly a bad thing). I haven't had any spotting but I'm supposed to get my period in a couple days, but I don't have any cramps. I'm switching to Sprintec, though, cause half the reason I started taking birth control was to help with my acne. My doctor keeps trying to convince me that all birth control pills are great with barely any side effects, but there aren't many good reviews for ANY birth control, it seems. I'm kind of afraid to switch because I don't want to mess with my hormones, but I'm tired of my acne, irregular periods, and worrying that I'm pregnant every time my period is late.Read More Read Less

Bleeding for 4 months, I stopped for two weeks while on this, but then it started again and my cramps were intense. Dr said it was 'breakthrough bleeding' but it continued for another two weeks. I have been on multiple pills for this so far, and this one has made me very sick to my stomach and extremely emotional. Wish she would try something new...

Before I took this bcp I took loestrin fe24.I switched because I started getting a lot of breakthrough bleeding. Within the first week of taking this pill I knew it wasn't for me. I started getting headaches which I NEVER get headaches ever, unless I wait too long to eat but it goes away once I do. Secondly, the cramping I experienced during my first cycle was horrible. In the 7 years I’ve had my period I have never had cramps like that. The last week or so I’ve been having cramping every day all day. I called my doctor Monday and explained what was going on, also major mood swings. She switched me to Ortho-Tri Cyclen, but told me to finish off the last two weeks of active pills for that pack of Junel. Today I took a pill and within 20 minutes my body started reacting badly to the pill; my heart started racing and I felt like I was having a heart attack…I’m 19!! I also got week and sort of disoriented. So I called the doc again and they told me not to take anymore and just wait until after my next cycle and start the new pills. I do not recommend these to anyone, due to side effects. Hope this helps. Read More Read Less
