I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis 5 years ago at age 58. After doing extensive research, I requested that my Rheumatologist allow me to try the antibiotic treatment, using minocycline, instead of the conventional treatments. He agreed. Within three weeks of taking 100 mg 2x/day, my flares had ceased. Within 2 months the swollen joints were returning to normal. Over the years, minocycline (...

Prescribed for acne. Worked well while i took it. But this will only work while you take it. So when you stop taking you can expect your acne to come back. Since prolonged use of antibiotics can destroy your guts microflora and also compromise you immune system, I would recomend skipping this and go straight for an effective cure such as isotretinoin. Also I got the stomach flu 2 times while takin...

I would not recommend minocycline. After 4 months with a mild case of acne and no results with over the counter products, I went to a dermatologist and was prescribed minocycline. The first day i took it, I felt nauseous (like I had morning sickness 24/7), was dizzy, and even found myself stumbling at work. My vision was also blurry and I had a constant headache. Because I was uncertain if it was the medication or if I had the flu,I proceeded to take it and the side effects persisted. After discontinuing minocycline, I found that I still did not feel relief from the side effects for about 36 hours.Read More Read Less

I would not recommend this medication. I am currently suffering from a mild case of acne and my dermatologist presribed me this medication. The first day I took it I felt drowsy and nausiated after a few hours. It made me so sick that I ended up vomiting(in which the vomit was a weird slimy saliva consistency). At first I didn't know if it was the medication for sure so I proceeded to take it for a couple more days to find out. In those days I felt so sick and couldn't function properly. I felt like I was going to fall over everytime I stood up and started to walk, my vision got blurry, and I was sick to my stomach for hours on end. I told my dermatologist the horrible side effects that I was experiencing so he had me stop taking them immediately, and prescribed me another medication (tetracycline) which I'm still currently taking. Tetracycline has improved my acne dramatically and doesnt have the horrible side effects of minocycline.Read More Read Less

I have been on this medicine for almost 4 years now - doctors from Germany, Czech Republic, India and now the UK have prescribed it to me. I have found that it has controlled 90% of my acne but never fully cured them. My liver tests have all been normal (the constant blood tests every 6 months were mildly annoying) but this has probably been the only drug that has made any difference. I didn't experience any side effects like many others on this forum so can recommend it personally. I'm not in the position to tell you about long term damage to me though. TIP: If taking it, try taking it at regular intervals at the same time every day. If you miss a dose take one immediately after you realise, otherwise wait for the next time and just skip it. Also, to monitor whether you're body is doing ok without it, try staying off it for at least 20 days. The skin cell turn around time is slow - missing a dose will affect your skin in a week, not the next day. The doctor has now prescribed me Doxycycline which is a milder tetracycline for the next two months. If everything goes ok, I'll go over to topical medication "Duac" which administers the antibiotic topically and reduces oil secretion. Read More Read Less

While the acne did go away I have had a skin reaction for the past 5 months all over my entire body from taking this drug. I have been off of it for most of that 5 months and there has been no change. My dermatologist says it may take up to 9 months for the skin reaction to disappear, I recommend no one use this drug. Trust me, having acne is far better!

I started this medication about 2 mnths ago for my acne. I've never had bad acne until about 6 mnths ago and didn't know that it was bad enough to go on medication. My breakouts stopped immediately when I started the medication. About one week into the treatment, I got a HORRIBLE yeast infection, which is a side effect of this medication. Now, I make sure to eat alot of yougurt so that this doesnt happen again.

I took this medication for just over a year. In that time, not only did my acne not get much better, but I also developed drug-induced lupus. The risk of getting drug-induced lupus from minocycline is low, but I didn't even know that it was a possibility. It took a visit to a rheumatologist to find out what was wrong with me. I would advise anyone using or thinking about using this medication to pay attention to any lupus/arthritis like symptoms that may occur. I hope that by sharing my experience, more people may be better informed and may be able to figure out if they have drug-induced lupus faster than I was able to.Read More Read Less

I had a frightening reaction to this medication and would not recommend it to anyone. I have grade II acne and was prescribed this antibiotic in addition to topical creams. To be honest I saw no improvement from the using the anitbiotic than I did using the creams alone. I was at work on the 3rd day of my usage and began to feel unsteady on my feet. I then proceeded to be unable to stand, my vision was blurred and I felt as if my head was disconnected from my body and I was had no control over myself. The severity of the reaction lasted only approxiamtely one hour, but I continued to feel dizzy and disoriented for the remainder of the day. Please consider using this drug to treat your acne very carefully. Read More Read Less

I was taking it for a mild relief of acne. However, I happened to experience the extreme side effect of dermographism (which does not happen to be listed on any websites or labels) 3 weeks into the treatment. My derm. explained that around 3-4 weeks is when a patient would be noticing side effects such as this. The side effect that this medicine has caused me is much worse than the acne itself. I could get by with the acne but the dermographism is something that is very hard to tolerate. I now am taking 4 pills of antihistamines a day, and waiting patiently for this side effect to pass. I am a very healthy person and never have experienced any side effects from any kind of medications. I would not recommend this drug to anyone, if it is necessary to use something from this family definetly go a different route. Read More Read Less

This drug worked well for acne, HOWEVER I did experience all of the very severe reactions to this drug that is listed after a short while. It is very painful and scary. The worst part is that NONE of the 8 doctors I saw figured out that I was receiving reactions from the drug. I was even diagnosed with Lupus at one point. It started with severe "cold sores" and eventually ended with severe joint pain, body sores and rashes and fatigue. I hope this helps.

I used it for about 3 years. I found it never completely cleared up my pimples comleatly but worked around the 90% mark. I came off the drug for the first time last week and have found i barely need them. So my only advice is dont get in the habit of using them forever because eventually you probably wont need them. Only one issue with the drug is it can make you a little angry or short with people if your on a high dose, particuarly when you start out.

It took about 6 weeks for any kind of result. After that, my cystic acne cleared up for the most part. It is very important to keep a steady dosage in your system for this to work effectively. AAA++++
