I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis 5 years ago at age 58. After doing extensive research, I requested that my Rheumatologist allow me to try the antibiotic treatment, using minocycline, instead of the conventional treatments. He agreed. Within three weeks of taking 100 mg 2x/day, my flares had ceased. Within 2 months the swollen joints were returning to normal. Over the years, minocycline (...

Prescribed for acne. Worked well while i took it. But this will only work while you take it. So when you stop taking you can expect your acne to come back. Since prolonged use of antibiotics can destroy your guts microflora and also compromise you immune system, I would recomend skipping this and go straight for an effective cure such as isotretinoin. Also I got the stomach flu 2 times while takin...

I am at the end of my two month treatment with this medication. It has worked very well for my mild acne. Within two weeks of use the acne was completely gone. However I developed vaginal yeast infections and a genital skin rash as side effects.

Completely cleared my acne up in 2 months, leaving my skin flawless and improved the texture of my skin, HOWEVER caused my existing anxiety to worsen and I developed depression and a feeling of un motivation badly. As soon as I stopped taking it my skin began to break out a little bit and my depression went away and anxiety decreased. I would not recommend this due to the side effects that affected my life .

I've struggled with acne for many years since middle school, and I'm in my early 20s now. I've tried every type of skincare/acne cream, but they never seemed to be very effective at controlling my acne. Previously I've tried doxycycline but it didn't work for me. Though I also stopped taking the course halfway through and then started up again, so that might've been why :P I went to a dermatologist again and she prescribed me a ~3 month course of minocycine, 100 mg twice a day. She also prescribed me topical cleocin. The drug description says that you may not see results until 6-8 weeks in, so I was starting to feel pretty discouraged at the 8 week mark, but 10 weeks in, my face started to feel a lot smoother! It's now the beginning of my 14th week and my face is the smoothest it's ever been! Still have a few days worth of pills to take, but I'm hoping that my face will stay this way after I stop taking the pills. Also, it may be the cleocin or a combo of the minocycline and the cleocin, but I have a lot of acne scarring. Though I would 100% prefer to be acne free and deal with acne scars afterwards, so I'm not complaining.Read More Read Less

I pop one of these babies twice a day and my acne has been going down. not sure if that's a result of the other medicine (Epiduo forte) im taking or if its this one. side effects wise, my breathing isn't as smooth as usual and I constantly feel tired and lowkey out of it. overall this experience isn't worth the results and Im gonna ask my doc to try doxycycline, those reviews are much better. glad my side effects weren't as bad as other peoples tho, everything besides what I mentioned is fine... so farRead More Read Less

I'm 22 and this was prescribed to me by a dermatologist for acne that I have struggled to get rid of for 10 years. Doctor said take once a day (100mg) at dinner. With in the first 2 days of me using it I started to feel dizzy almost as if I was experiencing vertigo. I also have some trouble breathing feeling like I can not get enough air in. I also have headaches and very tired, I could not make it though the whole day and went to bed 3 hours early one day. This is not a pleasant experience and I will be discontinuing the use of the drug and trying something else. It is not worth it. Read More Read Less

My primary care doctor started me on minocycline 100mg twice a day for painful cystic acne. I had to stop taking this drug after only one week of taking it because it was causing me to get anxiety attacks and depression. I did not see any improvement in my acne in just one week of use, which I honestly didn't expect to but I will not continue to take the medication due to these side effects that make me feel like I'm going crazy.

This medication has caused me extreme mental fatigue/brain fog, dizziness, and somewhat blurred vision. I am on it in case I developed Lyme Disease from a deer tick that I removed so it may be Lyme Disease. Can't wait until my prescription runs out and I hope there are no lasting side effects!

My son became ill after switching to this drug. He became more and more tired, lethargic, gut problems, heightened anxiety, dizzy, suffered vertigo on standing. He finally agreed to get his blood tested which showed he was severely anemic (non iron related) and had extremely high ferritin levels suggesting a reaction to something. His Hemoglobin and RBC were decreased 20% and WBC 50% from the last bloods he had taken when healthy. Checking the leaflet for minocycline sure enough a possible side effect is a drastic loss of all blood cells and patients put on this drug should get regular bloods done to ensure they don't experience this. To make it worse, my son has a genetic blood disorder so this loss of blood cells is extremely serious for him. Now we need to figure out how to get him healthy again without a transfusion. Three months ago he was coming 3rd in state Mountain Bike Events, now he can't even ride for 5 minutes without fatigue and running out of breath.Read More Read Less

I had moderately to sever acne in high school and during my junior year I was prescribed minocycline when all the topical ointments failed. It took about 3-5 weeks for results to show, but it was worth it. The redness went down and eventually my skin was almost flawless. Occasionally, I break out but never to the extent it was before.

I started going to the dermatologist around 2 years ago and switched between antibiotics combined with birth control and a topical cream. I stopped going a year ago because my skin was fine but had my annual check up a few weeks ago and was put back on all 3 treatments (bc pill, antibiotic, topical cream). I was prescribed minocycline 2 times a day, but after one week I started to develop extreme side effects: chest pain, VERY painful stomach cramps in the middle of the night, swollen and painful lymph nodes, headaches, a rash on my upper body, and very bad body aches that made me unable to move all day. I called my dermatologist who determined that I was allergic to this medication and switched me to a different pill right away! I know every body is different, but the side effects were so horrible and not worth it! Side effects went away 2 days after I stopped taking it!Read More Read Less

I was prescribed this for my adult cystic acne after spironolactone failed to eliminate it. Didn't take long for the positive results, tho if I missed a few doses the acne would reappear. I began having stiffness in my hands, wrists and gradually migrating to my forearms and elbows. Then i noticed sores inside my mouth, blurred vision, dizziness and finally the last straw was difficulty breathing. My derm said a few of my symptoms were common side effects but the "lupus like symptoms" and breathing problems were more of an allergic reaction and he will no longer prescribe this for acne. I discontinued the drug and now 4 months later everything has subsided except the shortness of breath. Not cool.Read More Read Less

I have been taking minocycline for 3 years, 100mg twice a day . I found a alternative Dr. willing to prescribe it to me and have been on it since. It's worked great for me. I couldn't even lift a coffee cup or turn a door knob. I had full blown severe RA. I have had no side effects so far and my inflammation markers are down. It's not a cure but minocycline in my experience, manages RA well. I am out of pain!

I started taking this after my dermatologist prescribed it and after 2 weeks I had an allergic reaction. First started with headaches and blurry vision then I woke up with hives all over my body and my hands and feet started to swell. I went to the emergency room where they told me this drug was the cause!!! DO NOT TAKE I have never had any problems with antibiotics before but this was awful!!!

I had severe hormonal and cystic acne since the 6th grade. My family and I tried every possible known method of treating my acne naturally without any oral medication. Topical creams and gels only worked for only a short amount of time. Before my sophomore year of high school, I was prescribed Minocycline by my doctor. Thankfully, I did not experience any side effects like those listed on this review page. It took about 4-6 weeks for the drugs to show any effect on my skin. My cystic acne number count began to decrease and soon my overall acne decreased in number. After half a year, all that was left of my acne was the severe scarring. I still take minocycline till this day (2015). I have tried to get myself off it even after my clear skin but when I do my acne resurfaces. I do hope I can get off it soon because taking an antibiotic for a prolonged amount of time effects your body externally and the effectiveness will wear off. This drug may or may not be affective for you. Everybody, literally as I say in body, is different. Because of my positive outcome I do suggest giving it a try. Wish you luck-Read More Read Less

Took it for 5 days and developed a sore throat, coughing up phalm, beginnings of a sore in my mouth, nausea and depression. Went off of it and within 24 hours all side effects except depression went away. Depression took several more days to go away. Decided to take it again just to be sure. Made a note that I was feeling well before starting it again. After two days I am coughing up phalm again. Stopping it today before I become more ill.

I had a close family member take this drug for acne. After taking for 2 months she developed a rash, shortly after that shortness of breath a skin biopsy was done which indicated DRESS a severe systemic allergic reaction. She was placed on oral prednisone. As she was tapering off the prednisone she developed severe chest pain and extreme fatigue. She was taken to the hospital where she cardiac arrested and was placed on life support. She experienced multiple organ failure myocarditis. She remained on life support for several weeks. She has been slowly recovering but 5 months later she is still suffering from heart failure. Previous to taking the drug she was a healthy 21 yr old. A athletic college student who was scheduled to graduate from college with honors. Read More Read Less
