As a spousal caregiver, this medication along with Aricept has been very effective. Cognitive skills, writing, alertness, sense of humor has all increased. I am very pleased with the effectiveness of this medication.

In May 2022 - June 2022, this medication was prescribed for Moderate Dementia for my 88-year-old mother. Had to stop giving it to her since it caused her to become more confused, paranoid, aggressive, and have hallucinations. It made her dementia worse, not better. PCP gave no info on any side effects & what to do if she got worse. Doctors should be more helpful when prescribing medication for dementia that could make the patient worse off as she has been since taking it.

Caregiver for 83 old spouse. Switched 2 months ago from aricept to memantine 2 tbs a day. Patient was restless from aricept woke up in middle of the night confused. Memantine keeps her in a positive mood during the day and she sleeps well at night and during afternoon naps. Walks more than a mile a day in nature park. Very big change in positive attitude. Thank you!

This medication has been a god send for my 86 your old mother. She was waking up in the middle of the nights with bouts of confusion and crying and pains throughout her body. She has been on Memantine for about 3 weeks and its been truly remarkable. She is a changed woman, I feel as if I have my mother back. She is laughing, planning her day with activities. She is just all around more cognitive and pleasant to be around. It may not be the wonder drug for everyone but it certainly worked for her. (I did break the pill in half the first week and now she is taking one pill a day). I hope this helps!Read More Read Less

Care giver for 65 year old female. It seems to be helping her feel more "normal", more than she had been. My understanding is that it helps make the patient feel less affected by swings and that is how it seems to be working for her.

I started taking namenda off-lable to treat the "brain fog" of fibromyalgia. My "brain fog" has improved; additionally, I believe the intensity of my pain has decreased. Probable mechanism of action is the blocking of the neurotransmitter glutamate. Glutamate is one of the neurotransmitters hypothized to be involved in fibromyalgia by Dr Daniel Clauw, MD, and the University of Michigan Chronic Pain and Fatigue Research Center.
