I hope no one takes these reviews seriously. Everyone is going to respond differently to this pill. Just because someone has awful side effects does not mean you will. Take me for instance...the only side effects I have had is 1 day of nausea, some mild moodiness, and slight breast tenderness. I am through my first pack of pills...and you have to understand that the side effects you are having wil...

I have been in Ortho Tricylin Lo for a couple of years with no problems at all. I was just recently given Trinessa lo because the pharmacy said there was no reason i couldnt get the generic. I've been on it for 10 days and i'm nothing but a bloated, tired, grumpy mess. I eat clean and do 30-60 minute intense workouts daily and i couldn't figure out why i looked so bloated and the scale was a few p...

My experience with this birth control has been something else. I started taking birth control back in December 2015. I was originally prescribed Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo, but, like many reviewers, had been switched to TriNessa by the pharmacy. (I had been on Ortho in the past, and had no issues). The first few months of being on TriNessa had been fine. However, things started to go downhill. I first started to notice what my doctor described as breakthrough bleeding, so I thought nothing much of it, but my periods started going haywire. Back in May, I had a 12-day period. In June, I had 7-day period, which is 2 days longer than normal, but 2 weeks later, my "period" started again, and it is still on, 13 days later. I still have a high sex drive, but I can't do anything about it because of these side effects (thank goodness for a supportive boyfriend). My breasts are tender, and I have gained a little weight, although I'm not sure how much. I've talked, well more like complained, to my doctor about the side effects, and she's suggested that I get off the pill and see if that works. I will be doing just that!! Everyone's body is different, but stay cautious of this b.c.!Read More Read Less

I had originally been on another pill that was not combination and I found that it made my acne worse than it already was. I mentioned that to my gyno and she put me on Trinessa and it has done nothing but good things for me. About a month or two after taking the combination pill, my acne had almost completely cleared with the occasional pimple here and there. I have been taking it for about 6 months and it is still very effective for me. The only two things is that I am very bad at remembering to take the pill which can cause some minor complications. Lately I have been working evenings (which is when I am supposed to take the pill; around 8:30 PM) but I would get too busy and forget to take it until the next day. This caused me to have a few more pimples than usual but nothing too drastic. It quickly fixed itself when I started being more careful about how late I take it. And this may not be the case for everyone. Everyone's bodies are different. Some people mention breast tenderness or spotting but I have had none of those. My overall experience has been very pleasent.Read More Read Less

I have been on trinessa for about 3-4 years and it has been great. My periods are light and last 5 days I only have cramps the day before and the first day of my period. It has kept my face clear, although i didnt have acne before, and I have never noticed extreme mood swings. I am petite so I was hoping it would promote weight/breast gain but it did not. Overall a very good BCP!

I have been taking TriNessa for about 6 months now and haven't had any problems yet. I used Ortho TriCyclin in the past and stopped after a year because I would get horrible nausea/morning sickness but loved the fact that I had no acne. 4 years later I was put on Trinessa and I don't have those issues anymore. I do get a small breakout during the menstrual week of the pills. I also see that I am unable to lose weight after changing my eating and workout regimen for about 4 months now. I am sad to find that my doctor believes this to be a source of my high blood pressure so I am being switched to the "mini pill" Nore-Be. I will see how it goes, but if it fails I will come running back for TriNessa for all of the other benefits it provides. Also, I can almost get it down to the hour of when my period is coming and only last 4-5 days as opposed to 8-9 on my natural cycle. Read More Read Less

I have been on quite a variety of different oral contraceptions over the past 17 years. Trinessa is my favorite. It was suggested to me by my doctor 3 years ago when she was trying to find me the most affordable pill as I did not have health insurance. I was very pleased with how clear my skin was while using this product, compared to other products (including the original Ortho Tri Cyclen). I later relocated and though my new doctor prescribed me Trinessa, the pharmacy I chose substituted Tri-Sprintec. Big mistake. Acne in places where I've never had breakouts before- all over my body. I tried to stick with Tri-Sprintec for 3 months, but saw no change in the side effects. I ended up switching pharmacies once I found one that would order the Trinessa for me. Ahh! Body and skin back to normal! Unfortunately, we relocated again, and the next new pharmacy tried to substitute another generic, Tri Norgestimate, which seemed to cause the same issues as Tri-Sprintec, if not worse. I ended up insisting they put me back on Ortho Tri Cyclen since they couldn't seem to acquire the Trinessa. Everything was fine til last month, when my prescription provider suddenly changed, and now does not cover brand name medications of any kind. The pharmacy again substituted the Tri Norgestimate, and within two days the acne was back, and rampant. I'm trying another pharmacy, but I just got off the phone with Caremark (the new prescription provider) and it appears Trinessa may not be being made anymore. If that's the case, I am really upset. What am I supposed to take now? I shouldn't have to deal with the ridiculous amount of acne that the other options cause. The Caremark pharmacist explained that due to slight variations in ingredients and trace ingredients, what I'm experiencing actually can/does happen. Please don't stop making Trinessa! Not all generics are created equal and some of us can't switch between them successfully!Read More Read Less

I am not a sexually active girl, so I started taking this for my acne, to cut my horribly long and heavy period duration shorter and lighter. I've been using this for about 5 months now and am just starting to enjoy it. About a month into taking TriNessa, I woke up during the night with the worst cramps I've ever had in my life and the longest/heaviest periods I've ever had. The horrible cramps only happened that one night, but I've just noticed that my last period was much lighter and half the time it normally lasts (used to go through a super tampon in 2 hours and lasted 1-2 weeks.. now a super tampon every 6 hours or so and about 4-5 days). I weigh about 115, 5'5", so I would be considered thin, but since starting this I've gained a lot of weight in my inner thighs and in my stomach/back areas. I used to have horrible acne and took specific pills just for my acne, but not I don't use those pills anymore. TriNessa completely cleared up my skin (yes, I still get a zit here or there every once in a while, but I'm not complaining anymore!) If you are like me and using it for these reasons and just starting out, I would give it a few months to see any changes.. As for sex, I couldn't help you out on if it prevents pregnancy ;) Hope I helped anyone on the fence with TriNessa!!Read More Read Less

I am only on my 1st month and there is an amazing difference in my skin. When my Dr. prescribed me this bc I did a lot of research and read everyone's side effects so for the first 2 weeks on Trinessa I thought I was going crazy wondering if I too had those symptoms. My acne and facial hair had gotten to be too much for me while I was on the IUD and had to switch. As I said it hasn't even been a month yet and my skin has cleared up so much, I almost didn't want to jinx myself writing this. For those of you that are skeptical from reading other reviews dont. Find out for yourself. My skin was awful and I tried everything before finally taking my iud out and getting on Trinessa. Hopefully now for my facial hair it stops growing like it did with the IUD. I have an appt to get laser removal now that my acne is all cleared up. Read More Read Less

If I could give this 0 stars I would. I went to pick up a refill at the pharmacy and instead of my usual Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo prescription, I was given this nightmare. I took TriNessa for three months. I bled EVERY day those three months, I felt depressed and felt like I could hurt someone because of the mood swings. When it was time for my period, I had cramps so bad they would radiate to my back (before I never had cramps with OTC Lo). I looked like a hormonal teenager because of the acne I would get (Never had that problem before either). This drug did not work for me at all and was the worst drug for BC I have ever had in my life. After 3 months on this nightmare prescription, I called my doctor and begged them to call the pharmacy and change my prescription back to OTC Lo. I found out that my dr. never changed my prescription, it was the pharmacy that did just because a generic was available. Generic does not work for everyone.Read More Read Less

Super dissapointed with this drug. Health background: 22 year old 5'9 135 pds , vegetarian and anemic. Tried to start it twice after a long break in between and nothing but headaches and vomiting from the first day on. Do not take this! Used to be on Ortho tricyclin lo and loved that. Worth the money to get better stuff.

Trinessa changed my life. I've always had irregular periods and pretty severe acne, and nothing worked on my acne. My doctor said I likely had PCOS and prescribed me this in order to get my period (I hadn't had one in 6 months) and to help with my acne. In the beginning I had really bad nausea and morning sickness but I learned that as long as I ate the medicine with a full meal, I wouldn't feel sick. This pill helped me regulate my period every month and helped my acne SO much. I also used epiduo for my acne, but most of the work in balancing my hormones came from this medicine. I did not have any other side effects and will continue using this medicine.Read More Read Less

I've been on this pill for 3 weeks now and it has been the worst experience! I was on Ortho Tri-Cyclen which was amazing, but due to a pharmacy switch I had to switch pills. I started school 3 weeks ago and have already missed 4 times do to vomiting, I've never been so sick on a pill before. I've been having the worst break outs which normally never happen, I've also been extremely tired which is not the normal energetic me. Although I have not weighed myself, I can tell I have gained weight and I now look bloated 24/7. I HATE this pill and I will be calling my doctor asap to get me on something else. The pharmacist said this pill was just like Tri-Cyclen but it is far from it! Do not take this, go through and read the other poor reviews on it because I did and was able to connect with them all which honestly was terrifying. I will be off this pill immediately! I started taking this birth control because I had horrific periods. I would get sick to the point of vomitting. I am so happy with trinessa. The first month I experienced mild naseau, but I have no problems with it. The best part is I only have to take 1-2 ibuprofen every time I have my period. It is amazing!

I took this birth control for about 4 months, and I didn't totally hate it at first. I bloated immediately and gained 5 pounds but I was expecting that. Sex with my boyfriend was as great as ever. However, by month three things took a horrible turn. I was crying randomly, I felt empty and sad frequently. My libido COMPLETELY disappeared, which can only be explained by the hormones in this pill and the 12-15 pound weight gain I had experienced by this point. No significant changes at all to my diet or exercise. I'm 20 and have never been as big as I am right now. I quit the pill cold turkey after a devastating moment on the scale. I've bleed since but as of the past day or two seems to have subsided. I loved the benefits at first but my unhappiness about my weight gain has been enough to derail that. Also, my skin has cleared up since stopping. If you can spare a 15 pound weight gain this pill isn't a bad option but just didn't work out for me.Read More Read Less

I've been taking this for about 6 months, no pregnacy, so it works. Reduced acne and regluar periods also a plus. However, I get old brown blood discharging at random times occationally, like it didn't all come out during my period and waits a week or two to send out the rest of it, kind of gross. Also, the mood swings are making me crazy. I have never had crazy mood swings before but on this BC I sometimes find myself crying for absolutly no reason. Going to have to switch to something else.Read More Read Less
