I have to cut pill in half, sometimes thirds, because full pill turns me into a useless zombie following day. I take 15 minutes before laying down, gets me to sleep and only wake 2-3 times during sleep, mainly to readjust position. Dream well. However, even with just half a pill, I can't get myself out of bed for about 10-12 hours, I experience severe vertigo for 1-3 hours accompanied by 4-5 hours of dopiness, and experience a near total loss of meaningful cognitive function and any motivation to get anything done. Zolpidem (generic) is NOT to be compared to Ambien, as Ambien has none of these awful side effects. Sadly, the existence of Zolpidem and price-gouging in the US has prevented insurance coverage for Ambien and purchase of Ambien for the millions of us without insurance. Zolpidem is not safe, for hours after waking up I am still unable to drive without being under the influence. FDA should take this drug off the US market. In the meantime, it would be much safer and productive, sadly, to live with chronic insomnia.Read More Read Less

The peach colored Zolpidem my pharmacy just used to fill my prescription is absolutely NOT real Ambien and is completely ineffective! What a waste of a couple nights with zero sleep.

Since starting my pre-menopause years, I have had trouble sleeping. I believe it is mostly hormonal. The doctor put me on this drug. I did get more sleep but did still wakeup several times a night. I would have liked to keep taking it. However, I found that a few days after taking it, I became severely anxious and depressed. I am typically not like that. I then went off the drug for a while. Desperate again for sleep, I went back on it. Again, I found myself in a deep depression and anxiety. I repeated this cycle several times so I am now sure it is the drug. I really wanted to keep taking this because I did get more sleep. I have to say, though, my husband is also on it and does very well on it. So, it likely depends on your genetics and how this drug will personally impact you. I believe it is worth trying because it did improve sleep quality. Just for me, the resulting severe anxiety was far too difficult as a side effect. Read More Read Less

For the most part this medicine is a lifesaver. But, like with a lot of other medicines, I don't always get the same (generic) brand every month from the pharmacy. I usually get small white pills but lately I've been getting oblong orange pills, and as other people here have stated, these ones DO NOT WORK! I've also had some (I don't remember what they looked like) that work but take hours to kick in. It doesn't seem safe to take pills that are obviously not the same medicine from month to month. I called my doctor today to request non-generic. I'm just hoping my insurance approves it. Read More Read Less

I have Bipolar disorder which comes with horrible insomnia on some nights. This med, when taken with all of my regular meds allows me to get a decent night's sleep instead of being awake literally 2-4 days straight with NO sleep. Zolpidem has been a lifesaver

I was on Ambien CR for several years. Due to Medicare, I was put on Zolpidem (5 mg). Everything was fine for a while. About 1 month ago developed severe hives. Two nights ago woke up with rapid heart rate. Needed to take Benedryl. Also got hives from Valarian root for the first time ever. Will go back and retry Belsomra. Am so upset. Even tried 2 different generics thinking it was due to the purple coating.

Usually had very hard time falling asleep, often went to work after sleeping an hour or two. Began taking 10 mg Zolpidem after retirement. It nearly always works. But often I sleep 3 hours or less, and getting back to sleep is hit-or-miss. (I do not take another pill.) There are no side effects that I'm aware of. I feel no different after taking the pill.

I noticed I was not as happy as I normally am. In addition I would wake up multiple times during the night thirsty. On top I was answering emails, sending texts and sleeping in other rooms of the house. My dreams were very scary and seemed real. Once I dreamt somebody was breaking into the house and I called 911. I donâ??t remember making the call at all and had to apologize to the police when they showed up. This is NOT the medication for me

I have had crazy conversations with people, hallucinations, sleep walked, sleep eaten, and sleep driven using this medication. I remembered none of it. Woke up once in the middle of the night in front of Walmart with a bag of stuff I did not remember driving there. Dizziness was also a problem. I do not recommend this medication for anyone Bi-Polar.

I have taken this medication for more than a year with great results. Three nights ago I had an episode of amnesia of about an hour. My son stopped by to pick something up and when I spoke with him the next day, I had no recollection of his short visit. This scared me enough that my doctor changed my medicine to trazodone. I took that last night and it worked fine. I just thought I wanted to use a medication that would not cause the episodes of amnesia. My mother also was given ambien (zolpidem is generic for ambien) several years ago after surgery and she had a terrible reaction. For 6 to 7 hours, she kept talking about being in a cult...asking questions, trying to get out of bed in the hospital. She was very agitated and upset. When it finally wore off, we laughed about the things she had said. Maybe that is why I wanted to change meds so badly. Maybe it's hereditary and I never wanted that to happen to me.Read More Read Less

Zolpidem 12.5mg is the best thing since sliced bread! I started taking Ambien 5mg several years ago, then went up to 10 mg. Next, I went up to Zolpidem 6.25 mg two times per night, as I would take it at bedtime and when I woke up to use the bathroom. Due to the increasing cost of prescription drugs, I have now switched to Zolpidem 12.5 mg and take it at bedtime. I sleep through the night but wake up earlier in the morning, now that I am retired and have no job! Wish I could sleep longer in the a.m., but it must be the light of day awakening me. I do get tired at around 9-9:30 p.m. and struggle to keep my eyes open to watch TV. Go to bed around 10:30 - 11 p.m. My partner watches TV in the bedroom, so I don't believe I can shake the habit so to speak. Well, there's no dosage beyond what I now take, so I hope it continues to work night after night. I don't think I can sleep without the medication, but I do feel G-R-E-A-T in the a.m. after an excellent night's rest.Read More Read Less

Been taking this medication for about three years and it puts me to sleep within 30 minutes and I wake up fully refreshed. There are no side effects, no dragging and fully alert when I get up in the morning. On days that I have to get up early, I just go to bed earlier and still awake refreshed. My insurance company doesn't cover it anymore but the cost retail wise is relevantly cost effective. Knowing that the product is safe and effective, I see no reason for changing it. I have tried other sleep medication and none come even close to this medication. If you have problems with sleeping, then ask your doctor if he would at least let you try it out. Yes, some medications that you are taking may interfere so its always wise to consult with your personal physician and NOT just any doctor.Read More Read Less
