I had three intramuscular injections. As a result my periods didn't end for 75 days. I had diarrhea, suicidal thoughts, vitamin D deficiency, paresthesia, numbness in my limbs, scalp burning, severe scalp hair loss, eyebrows and eyelashes loss, itchiness all over my face and head, dermatitis, acne, headaches. It's been 5 months after injections and I'm still losing hair by handfuls! I've lost 50% ...

5 of 7 injections provided complete relief of shoulder pain and limited range of motion; at the 3rd injection I noticed a brief instance of elevated HR which I ignored. The 5th injection (2 years later) created a delayed reaction of elevated HR above 140 and high BP which required ER care; nobody asked about injections and attributed it to anxiety or hormones, one month later my cycles increased to two per month for 3 months. I had not made the connection until the 7th injection when within 4 hours my HR spiked at rest to over 140 and this lasted over 3 days resulting in a 4lb weight loss. I then figured out it was the injection and reading the other side effects noted realize the changes in my cycle may also be entirely attributable. VERY scary and not worth the risk, I should have researched this drug, been informed of side effects and will be seeking alternatives. If you are a woman, perimenopausal and/or have anxiety - don't take this unless you're confident you can manage this type of impact to your body and have an especially responsive Provider.Read More Read Less

Recieved a Kenalog injection in my right buttock to treat an allergic over-reaction to poison ivy. Injection site hurt a LOT for a week afterwards, lots of bruising around the injection site. 4 months later an divot formed in my right buttock, about the size of a baseball. My fat and muscle in that area continue to atrophy and the divot continues to get worse. This is a KNOWN SIDE EFFECT that I was not informed about! It is not uncommon and can be permanent. Make sure you are aware of all the possible outcomes before you agree to put this medication in your body.Read More Read Less

I have bi lateral frozen shoulders, the pain during the day and trying to sleep at night was insufferable and continuous. I decided after some time and talking around to people with similar problems, I would have steroid injections in bothe shoulders. It's painful having the injections and I felt pretty good without a day or so, the shoulders eased up and I was thinking, wow, this is great I can actually sleep comfortably for the first time in 6 months. The good bit over with above, within a week of having these injections my left leg varicose veins swelled through out the leg, I was in alot of discomfort, eventually having been put on very strong anti inflammatories that made me feel worse, I had a scan on the leg that revealed clots. In addition to the above, I've had the following follow on problems since having the injections:- Palpations, not sleeping, night twitching beyond belief for hours and hours at time, terrible sleep deprivation because of it, felt almost faint at times, dizzy, unsteady on my feet , cannot over do anything, shorted days with anything I do I feel shattered all the time. Luckily my employer has been sympathetic, I was in between contract for a while and then signed off sick. Since having the injections in the summer, I've not worked, I'm five months just over and counting as to when I may feel normal. I've tried everything from seeing gps to hospital appointments, to changing my daily routine and eating habits, exercises to ease anything. I've not felt consistency and well for so long, I cannot remember the last time I felt well. If you do not have to have these Kenalog based injections, do not have them, I felt dreadful since. My next step, I do not know, I've felt so dreadful every day I do not know what to do. I am considering going back to the person who administered the injection as I was not made aware of any of these side effects at all. Read More Read Less

Received injection on August 6th 2023, it was for SI joint pain in lower back pain supposedly, I had gotten very bad side effects right away, similar to what I've already read but I'll state quickly, I've had feverish sweating, horrible insomnia for days, worsened depression and mood swings, it's been almost 2 months at the beginning of October, how long until the side effects are expected to subside because my doctor repeatedly has told me 3 weeks but I am far past 3 weeks and having issues with the side effects ongoing, I would never consider this and I'm offended that I was lied to about the details of this injection, beware kenalog Read More Read Less

35 yr old F, I have been getting this injection since 2019 (4 years). I have a torn hip labrum and chronic bi-lateral hip bursitis, when injected into the hip joint, this lasted about a year each time. It didn’t last more than a few weeks when injected into to bursa sacs. First injections were 7/2019, lasted 5 months, then 1/2020, lasted over a year, then July 2021 lasted long enough for my hip to rehabilitate enough To not need another (torn labrum doesn’t heal but your supporting muscles/tendons/ligaments strengthen to compensate). Each shot disrupted my menstrual cycle. I would get my period 4-7 days after receiving the injection regardless of how recently I had just had it or if I currently had it. I also gained 10-15 lbs with each injection. Regardless, it allowed me to walk so I would have rated it 5 stars then. May 2022, I didn’t need it for my hip anymore, but I now needed it for my back. I figured I would try it since it helped my h up so much. I have a herniated L5-S1, I received bilateral epidural injections. It didn’t help AT ALL. I ended up in the ER a week later bc I couldn’t sit up/stand/walk straight. Even after that visit it never kicked in or worked. At this point I had gained 34 lbs from the shots, and this one made me gain another 15. So a total of 50 lbs in 3 years!!!! May 2023, I had weight loss surgery in January to get the steroid weight off so I had lost the 50 lbs. I decided to try again despite the potential weight regain bc I had to do physical Field work research. This time Dr. Injected into bilateral sacroiliac joint. It was great for 2 weeks! I noticed that it also cleared up my chin acne, hand eczema and scalp psoriasis this time. Like every other time I got my menses again, but this time I bled for 2 entire months!!!! It also halted my weight loss from the gastric sleeve surgery. My appetite is huge again from the steroid, but luckily I have WLS tools now to deal with it. Given that the pain relief only lasted 2 weeks, I won’t be getting another shot in my back bc it doesn’t last long enough to be worth the side effects. Read More Read Less

My Dr. gave me an injection of Kenalog 40 for the bursitis pain I was having in my right hip following hip replacement surgery. The bursitis is due to a difference in leg length that resulted from surgery. It worked wonders!!!!!!!

It is amazing for seasonal allergies. I am sorry some have an adverse reaction. I assume that has much to do with other immune problems or health issues. I am healthy and only have issues with seasonal allergies that can cause breathing problems. This injection has only helped me.

Wow, at 73 years of age I have bone on bone in my shoulders. It's painful and my Orthopedic doctor gave me a shot of this stuff. OMG I've been having the strangest effects from it. I've read some of these experiences and see I'm not the only one to suffer ill effects from something the medical profession considers safe enough to give to patients!!! I spent 4 hours last night telling myself to breath because I thought I wasn't breathing and that's just one of the listed things that has happened to me. I feel for everyone who has been subjected to this drug and I for one won't be getting another shot of it!!! I just hope the horrible stomach problems, one among the long list of other side effects I'm having, goes away!!Read More Read Less

I was given this by my doctor with injections in my neck which had caused consistent pain for several months. Six months later this was diagnosed by a osteopath as neural foraminal stenosis. I do not exaggerate when I say this drug almost killed me. I was not told that the drug should not be given to patients with chronic heart failure - see Webmd list of who should not be given this drug. My PCP told me it should kick in about 3 days later. It did but not as expected. I could not breathe and had to call an ambulance. In the ER they determined that my heart was in bad shape with a reduced ejection fraction and also PVCs and that I had liquid in my lungs which they initially diagnosed as pneumonia but later retracted. They did not know that i had been injected with Kenalog. After one night they discharged me with antibiotics but I was back in hospital the next day coughing up blood. IF YOU HAVE HEART FAILURE DO NOT TAKE THIS DRUG. Read More Read Less

I was given 6 shots in 12 days from a pain mgt Dr. Back in 2015 and it destroyed my life. The novel that I would/could and may write about the 57 doctor visits that followed. This weaken for my hamstring and gluts at the injection site and my hamstring tore 9cm. The tear sounded like someone broke a baseball bat over me. I was manic, hade a weekend of psychosis days weeks and months and years of residual issues. Anxiety, neuropathy, depression, digestive problems, I mean if you read the symptoms of the other reviews and add them all up that’s what I went through. I am a miracle cause I didn’t sleep for nearly 21 days after my final series of shots which was administered directly into my si joint. This is an EXTREMELY DANGEROUS DRUG. I thank GOD every day for being with me when the demon that invaded my mind was suggesting suicide as my solution. Don’t take the chance. Don’t ever get more than 1 shot in a very spaced out time and be ?? aware of the potential side affects if you must take this. Read More Read Less

HORRIFIC. SIJ injection/bilateral: Within one hour-hour of the injection I had: feet burning, leg burning, hand and body burning, blurred vision, headache, eye aches, nausea, dizziness. I immediately developed fatigue, body sensitivity, cognitive issues, burning pelvis, body itching, profuse sweating day and night, and paradoxical insomnia. My doctor denied any connection whatsoever to the injection. I ended up in the. ER. It has been 9 weeks and my symptoms are worsening.

I had keloid scars injected five times over the course of a year with kenalog and it did help flatten the scars a bit temporarily. After a few months they popped back up though. The worst part was the side effects. At first I didn’t tie it to the drug. With each shot it got worse- extreme irrational mood swings, rage, irritation, trouble thinking, argumentative, impatience, and panic. I became very suicidal and depressed. It also caused blurry vision and eye pressure. I suffered from acid reflux and gerd for about a month after. I also had irregular periods. The most embarrassing part aside from my crazy emotional wreck personality was my hair loss. I started shedding insane amounts of hair for months after. 6 months after stopping it’s FINALLY started to calm down with the hair loss. I would guess I’ve lost 30 percent of my hair. So sad. Do not use this drug. It’s not worth it. It damages your brain. The only suggestion I have and that genuinely helped me was to eat a lot of liver. A doctor recommended it to me. Sounds crazy but it did actually seem to work. I eat it almost daily now and it has really sped up my recovery. My moods are normal again and like I mentioned, my hair loss has chilled out. I've read where some people have a horrible experience with this medication, but it's been amazing for me. I usually get 1-2 shots a year in my sacroiliac joint. The shots are a little painful, but the results are usually great for me. I travel a lot and it is really beneficial to me to get these shots especially when I fly because you have to sit for so long and don't get to stretch or move often. I've been getting these shots for years and have never had a bad experience with them.

AWFUL!! while it did its job with my shoulder pain, it has just about ruined the last 2 months of my life. The jitteriness is the WORST. Uterine bleeding for 6 weeks now and my arms and legs feel as heavy as bricks. Not to mention the shortness of breath and palpitations. I have been to 9 different doctors and 2 have agreed that it is the side effects of this shot with minimal they can do to treat the side effects of this poison. When does it end?? I cant function normally.

In June of 2022 I was healthy and active except for some pain and stiffness from hip osteoarthritis. I received one intraarticular hip injection and 5 days later my life was turned upside down. 4 ER trips, numerous tests (all normal), scans etc. Missed work, unable to get out of bed. Debilitating nausea, elevated BP, anxiety off the charts, hot flashes, ears ringing, hair loss, weird pins and needles sensations, brain fog and the list goes on. The frustration is real....no doctor wants to admit Kenalog did this. Nothing else makes sense if you understand the timeliness of the symptoms and the shot. Stay away from this drug. 14 weeks and counting. Just now can slightly function. Read More Read Less

I would recommend AGAINST this injection. I took the injection to combat bad seasonal allergies / hayfever but did not fully appreciate the potential side effects. 6 days after the injection I suffered for an episode where I was close to collapsing, extreme dizziness, weakness and muscle fatigue which turned to aggressive muscle twitching. Following this i have continued to have regular dizziness, difficulty concentration, heavyness in eyes / tiredness, low mood and lack of energy. Currently 10 weeks post injection hoping that these side effects end soonRead More Read Less

I have osteoarthritis in both knees resulting in pain and stiffness. For the last 3 years, I have been getting knee injections every three months ( doctor will not give injections more often ) . The relief I get can be expressed using a bell curve graph. Over the first two - three weeks, my pain and stiffness improve greatly. I then hit a welcomed plateau for about six - eight weeks. The pain and stiffness then begin to return. I find that the more weight bearing activity I do during that time greatly effects how quickly the pain and stiffness return. During the plateau I can run on the treadmill - but don't. The immediate weeks before my injections, it is embarrassing to be scene trying to get up off the floor. Read More Read Less

I have gotten the drug for 3 years 2x a year to help with my allergies. I get one at the beginning of spring and one at the beginning of fall, it has worked wonders. BE CAREFUL who does your shot. I went to my primary care doctor and he had a nurse do the shot which was normal, they do it every time. I got my shot but she did it on the side of my hip and hit my bone. I did not think very much of it, but a couple months later I noticed a small dip in my hip forming. it was the size of a pea and I thought it was weird but brushed it off. My last shot was on 06/15/21. the shot expires 6 months after injection which is why I get 2 a year. The nurse that have me the injection, injected it into one of my tendons and it started eating away at the fat, muscle, and tendons around it. The dip is now showing through my clothes and is the size of a fist. I went back to my primary care doctor and he told me it would go away in 2 years. 4 months later is doubled in size so I went to see a plastic surgeon and he could not do anything until it stopped growing and waned to wait 2 months and have me come back in. I have chronic migraines and I got to talking to my neurologist and as soon as I showed him my hip, he immediately sent a referral over to a dermatologist. he said it was the worst case he has ever seen. I only weigh 95 lbs. So I went to a dermatologist and he injected saline into the area to open up some space and try to dilute the drug. It was extremely painful. I go back in, in a week, to get saline injections again and if nothing has changed, I have to get a biopsy done in the center which will cause my bone to be open. The dip is now right up against my hip bone with no fat or muscle in between. It is wrapping around my side towards my butt. This injections helps a ton with allergies but please be considerate of where they are injecting it. I have a ton of medical bills and appointments because a nurse gave me a shot wrong. be safe out there!!!Read More Read Less
