My neurologist calls my condition benign tremors. Started with a very low dosage to adjust to the drug. I've been on a 100 mg dosage for over two years. The drugs works very well. No tremors and no side effects. Every drug should work this well.

About 4 years ago I had a continued treatment (after quitting alcohol use) of 2 medications: Diazepam and Phenobarbital. The reason I quit Phenobarbital 4 years ago was becasue of it's onset side effects, slow speech, difficulty in project completion etc... My Neurologist has suggestted that I may have to return to taking Phenobarbital again to help prevent these rapid epilectic tics, generated from increased foci (from excessive drinking). However after researching, with my regular dotor, we found the closest thing simular to Phenobarbital without being a barbitruate hypnotic drug. I take 1000mg (250mg q.i.d) daily of Mysoline generic form which is Primidone. The first day on the taper I thought it was going to be just like Phenobarbital, but far from it! After the after the inital 3 days, side effects were nothing when compared to Phenobarbital. This medication has helped me tremendously, without feeling like a zombie all the time! Even though it's an older medication, I was also able to stop taking Tegretol. I am suprissed that more doctors don't take a second look at this medication. Sometimes the older medications are better without all these "modern sucidal warnings" on them. This medication has helped so much compared to anything else, and yet it is still pushed to the back of the rx list. I am suprissed more doctors don't even know or perscribe this medication! I have taken this mediction for fourty years. It has proved very efective in the control of my seisures, Since taking this medicine I have had only five deisuresduring that time, most of the time it has been because I forgot my medication. I am taking 750 mg per day (2 in the morning and 1 at night) This medication is taken in conjuction with dilantin. ( 400 mg per day, two in the morning and one at night. I have had no thoughts about suicide and lead a normal productive life, I have worked, had children and am driving a car. Only when my neurologist put me on lamotragine (100 mg 6 times a day, 3 in the morning and 3 at night did my seisures return. I was having 1 or more seisures every other month. When I started taking this medication my sleep habits changed. I started not being to sleep for twenty four hours or more a night. When I did get to sleep I only sleep for three to fours a night. The combibination or dilantin am mysoline have proven efectively proved sucessful for me for over fourty yearsRead More Read Less

I have been successfully treated with Mysoline since 1985. This is the only medication that has controlled my seizures with no side effects. My insurance will no longer pay for the Mysoline and I have tried the Primidone, resulting in many side effects. I switched back to Mysoline and now pay $330.00 per month for my medication. I find this disturbing and unfair, as I am employed full-time with health benefits! I will continue to fight with the insurance companies until this is remedied. Mysoline is the only medication that has worked for me and I cannot put my health in jeopardy. I have 2 children who need my full attention.Read More Read Less

My father is 92 and shakes to the point that I have started giving him a table spoon to eat with instead of a fork. The drug works for a few hours so I am cutting the 50 Mg tablet in half and giving him half with breakfast and half with dinner.

This medication make me drowsy and sleepy. It does help my ET, but it is hard to work. I have a hard time concentrating at work, I am always in a daze. I attempt to hide the side affect, but I know I am not fooling anyone. I take 200mgs for the past four years.
