I have been treated 3 times over 5 years for a MRSA infection that keeps popping up. Each time IV Vanco has been used... 3 days in hospital and 2 weeks at home . Administered over 2 hours (slowly) and no itching, redness or anything. This drug has been a miricle for me and without a doubt saved my hand and foot....possibly even my life. It is the "Big Guns", but all the oral ones failed me and...

My son (age 28) has been on this medication by IV infusion therapy numerous times over the past year. One side effect he has had lately (which I have not seen posted here) is nausea and vomiting. He cannot keep anything down, even water, for a full day. He also gets red man syndrome and has to take an antihistimine before each dose.

Had infection in knee that was replaced 5 years previous. Came on suddenly. I had vanc by pic line for 6 weeks. My side affects were nausea daily, extreme fatigue and inability to think or clear my mind. It has been 1 week since the pic line is gone and my mind is still slightly foggy, thinking is a chore and I do still have nausea. Lost 10 lbs due to this.

During bone graph of L4 & L5 1 g of vancomycin powder was placed on the graph and the incision closed. After surgery I noticed a hearing loss. It is mid range in my right ear, ENT doc said it's nerve damage probably permanent .

Removal of cyst on finger by my doctor resulted in staph aur. 10 days in hospital and several months of IV Vancom and my hand and life were saved. I did lose half of my finger which had to be amputated because the infection was in that joint/bone of my finger and still after 6 months of the most powerful antibiotics available. Side effects: hair thinned and changed texture, yeast infections frequently.

I was given this after a mastectomy to prevent any infections. On the third day of twice a day iv drips I thought I was going to die. The pain in my stomach felt like I was being stabbed and the nausea was unbearable! Luckily my wonderful nurse found something to push thru my iv & the nausea cleared quickly. I will NEVER use this drug again!

As in Kim's case, I had MRSA staph three times over an eight year span. Vancomycin was the only drug that was effective in knocking it out. Many others werte tried.
