I take Amitiza twice a day. It helps me have 4 to 5 bowel movements a week. I was only going once a week before and the straining was terrible. I have a predictable movement instead of the explosive bowel movements I get with linzess or laxatives.

I have been on this medication for one week. It has relieved my chronic constipation but replaced it with loose stools bordering on diarrhea. My doctor prescribed taking the drug 2x daily. However, this produced very, loose stools, painful gas and stomach discomfort. I reduced the dosage to 1x daily and noticed some improvement. Since reducing the dosage, I have less gas, my stools are more fi...

I wasn't having BM for at least 14 days. Went on the meds and now I have severe diarrhea every day. I go at least 5 times a day. Want to be taken off this!

At first it worked great, then it seemed to almost stop working. However, I believe it just takes time for your body to get use to it. It took a while for it work well. So Far it's working great! I'm very please. I go almost daily now instead of once per week! I feel better.

My doctor gave me 24mcg samples for OIC and the resulting anal fissures. We tried daily, but it worked TOO well, if you catch my drift. We switched to every other day and that's working well.

Started on Saturday morning and had the expected diarrhea all weekend. I stabilized throughout the following week and found great relief from pain, bloating, and constipation. However, I feel the effectiveness has worn off a little and I plan to focus on upping my intake of water and fiber. On the negative side, I am more irritable than usual and my heart arrhythmia has flared up. So, I'll work on lowering caffeine intake and see if that helps. Amitiza has provided much relief and I plan to continue with it. Read More Read Less

This medicine worked for the first three days and then stopped. After the fifth day I started getting very sad, depressed and eventually suicidal. I've never had a medicine do this before, it's very scary.

I have had issues with my bowels all my life and was told to eat more fiber, drink water and nothing worked. My doctor told me to eat fiber and exercise still nothing. I had a colposcopy done and they found nothing but a small hernia but nothing to worry about. I went to my family doctor and she gave me some sample of amitiza and I was fearful because nothing else worked for me. I took 24gram as directed with food morning and after lunch I can assure you about 40 min later I was pooping. I was so excited!!!!!!! I have lost so many inches around my waist is scary. I was going to call my doctor and tell her I m losing or lost belly fat but too embarrassed I love this drug, one side effect was the dizziness when taking it on a half full stomach but I give this all hands up Read More Read Less

I read a lot of these reviews and I am sorry for those it does not work for. After only my second dose I had a great bowel movement! Most I have done in months. Before only have 1 bowel movement a week and now having 1 daily! I have no side effects yet and my insurance must be good because my copay is only $30. I am a happy camper!

Out of necessity, I am opiate dependent because almost all NSAIDs are contra-indicated in my case. And the best of the laxatives, MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol 3350), gives me a day of bloating followed by severe cramps before there is any relief--and the resulting bowel movements can be explosive and painful. When Amitiza first came out, I was finally able to deal with my severe chronic pain without the complication of debilitating constipation. After few weeks of adjusting the dose, 24 mcg twice per day with one 24 mcg capsule once per week, I have normal bowel movements five to six days every week. This medication has been close to a wonder-drug for me.Read More Read Less

I have been taking Amitiza for the past two weeks, and while it does help with bowel movements, all of a sudden I'm getting red spots on my arms and legs. The ones on my arms start out like mosquito bites, and if and when I scratch them, I get large red and purple welts. Reading the side effects, I see that one of them is hives, and now I'm wondering if it's worth staying on this medication. I'm thinking of going off it for a while to see if this condition goes away. I'm on oxycodone for pain, and constipation is awful so my pain mgt. doctor prescribed this medication.Read More Read Less

Trouble breathing. Noticed tightness of chest and trouble breathing ... thought I was getting sick but after a few days of it getting worse I realized it was the meds. Bummer, scary feeling. Back to otc products.

IBS for years and no help Amitiza has offered help to me. my side-effects are bloating, and or loose stool after one or two weeks full usage. I take 24 mg capsule twice a day. I use until BM's become watery .. skip one or two days of dosing then return to regular dose. which is so much better then IBS without help. help.

Used for two years daily. It worked but too expensive. After stopping, i started drinking 12 ounces of water with one teaspoon of baking soda and the juice of one-half lemon mixed together every morning. Then at night took one 1,000mg of olive oil leaf pill to keep colon lubricated. This works the same as Amitiza but is so very less expensive and more natural, that I am sorry I wasted all that money over the years. Not to mention that my gastro doc did not suggest a home remedy for relief before prescribing such an expensive medication.Read More Read Less

I took this medication when I started to be diagnosed with IBS-C. At first, the pill did wonders. I was going to the bathroom at least once a day and that was a lot for me. About a good month into it, I started having side effects. I gained about 7 pounds, I was having severe diarrhea, stomach cramping, bloating, I ended up going to the E.R. not knowing what was wrong with me. I am currently not taking any pills and have a follow up with my GI Doctor to find a new pill I can try.

Somewhat successful but not all the time. Price increasing despite having good insurance coverage. No significant side effects noted.

Works like a champ, and fairly quickly too. Did not return to 'normal' pre opiate pain killer GI state, but huge improvement. Concerned they may interaction with non-opiate nerve pain Rx as that Rx seems to be less effective after taking Amitiza, but maybe it just me developing a tolerance?

Best thing I have ever tried. Been taking for 4 months and I feel great. I don't look 7 months pregnant anymore either. Sometimes you do have to get to a rest room pretty fast but still its a great med. Give it a chance to level off you will be happy with it I think.
