I have Steven's Johnson Syndrome. I also have Vertigo. I've been experiencing Vertigo symptoms for abt 15yrs. During that time, it has gotten progressively worse. I tried taking the actual pill. I had a severe allergic reaction that sent me to the ER. So I've walked around abt a yr or so without any medication. This last bout of Vertigo was so bad, I was in bed, in total darkness for 7 days. That had never happened before! The symptoms always start for me in the middle of the night. This last time I honestly didn't know what was happening. I could not sit or walk without assistance. I fell out of bed and attempted to crawl into the bathroom. I have 5 steps leading into my bathroom. I just laid there. My Mother finally came and called and called for me. When she didn't get answer, she came upstairs to help me. When she helped me to the bathroom (yes I held it!) and back to bed, I phoned my Dr and begged for a script for the pill, even though I knew I'd land in the ER. I was told no, he didn't want to risk it. He told me lay still and he'd get back to me. Abt 6p, I received a call from his PA telling me that Meclizine comes in chewable and that the compound is different, but I should be ok. Bc the compound is different, it works slower. I said ok. The spinning began on a Tuesday morning at 4a. Ears clogged. Temples throbbed. Any movement hurt. I was to chew 2 every 6hrs. By Friday evening the pressure in my head was subsiding. I was in tears bc I was scheduled for surgery the next Wednesday and I needed this to go away. I had been flat on my back for 4 days. Totally frustrated ??! I slept thru the weekend. No food. Stomach didn't want to cooperate. By Monday afternoon I was able to sit up without falling over. On Tuesday morning I woke up and it was like it never happened ??! The entire ordeal was unsettling. They worked slow for me, but the chewables work! I'm grateful for the chewables, however they work! That was 4 weeks ago. Surgery went well. I'm hearing the ocean in my ears now. I'll chew 2 and hope for the best! Vertigo is hereditary. If u notice u're unable to bend over without stumbling a bit or a of a sudden u get dizzy...Go to an ENT IMMEDIATELY! I have fallen several times and didn't know why. I use a cane for balance. Meclizine is not for everyone, but now I know there is a choice...Tablets or Chewables!!!Read More Read Less
