What causes erectile dysfunction in older men?

ANSWER

The most common causes or erectile dysfunction, or impotence, in older men are conditions that block blood flow to the penis. That can include diabetes or narrow arteries from plaque. Other causes could be a faulty vein that lets blood drain too quickly from the penis, hormones, and certain surgeries.

Some medications also may interfere with nerve signals involved in an erection. They include stimulants, sedatives, diuretics, antihistamines, and drugs to treat high blood pressure, cancer, or depression.
