Does melatonin help treat pain and sleep problems from fibromyalgia?

ANSWER

Some early studies show that melatonin may be effective in treating fibromyalgia pain. Most people with fibromyalgia have sleep problems and fatigue, and experts think that melatonin may help relieve these symptoms. Melatonin is generally regarded as safe. But due to the risk of daytime sleepiness, anyone taking melatonin should use caution when driving. Talk to your doctor before you start taking any kind of supplement, so you know what's safe for you to try.
