Can tests show when you were exposed to genital herpes?

ANSWER

PCR and cell culture tests show that you were exposed to the virus at some point, but it's hard to know when it happened. You could have had HSV for many years before your first noticeable outbreak. Or you may have never had an outbreak but still be contagious to a sexual partner.
