Who can get Medigap insurance?

ANSWER

Medigap policies are only available to people who already have Medicare Part A, which helps pay for hospital services, and Medicare Part B, which covers the cost for doctor services. People who have a Medicare Advantage plan cannot get a Medigap plan.

If you're going to buy a Medigap plan, the open enrollment period is 6 months from the first day of the month of your 65th birthday -- as long as you're also signed up for Medicare Part B -- or within 6 months of signing up for Medicare Part B.
