Consumer assistance program, also called CAP

Some states have consumer assistance programs to help you  if you have a problem with your health insurance. The goal of a CAP is to make health insurance less confusing. It can help you:

  • Understand your rights
  • File a complaint about your insurance plan
  • File an appeal if your health plan says it won’t cover a service
