Marketplace, also called Exchange

A health insurance Marketplace provides the information you need to compare health plans and buy insurance. You can buy insurance through a Marketplace online, on the phone, or in person. Marketplaces may be run by your state, the federal government, or a nonprofit organization. You can also find out if you qualify for a subsidy to purchase insurance or help with cost-sharing through a Marketplace. You can only receive subsidies if you purchase your insurance through a Marketplace.

If you have health insurance through your job, you do not need to buy it through a public Marketplace.
