ANSWER

Diet, exercise, and medication all can help keep your blood pressure under control:

�Keep a healthy weight

�Eat a balanced diet, with lots of veggies, fruits, whole grains and lean meats

�Eat less salt and sugar. Most Americans get too much of both, especially in processed and packaged foods

�Limit alcohol

�Don't smoke tobacco

�Exercise regularly. Aim for 30 minutes of brisk physical activity five times a week

�Avoid stress. It makes your body release chemicals to make your heart beat harder and faster and your blood vessels tighten, which raise your blood pressure

�Ask your doctor about other ways to prevent or control your hypertension
