Janet Helm, MS, RD

Janet Helm, MS, RD, specializes in nutrition and culinary communications.  Trained as a nutritionist and a journalist, Helm is an expert at translating the science of nutrition into intelligible words -- and great food choices.

As a former national media spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association, Helm has tackled a variety of nutrition topics on television, including appearances on Today, Good Morning America, and CNN.   She is the author of the popular blog Nutrition Unplugged and founder of the Nutrition Blog Network, an aggregator of more than 200 blogs written by registered dietitians.  Helm has been a pioneer in the convergence of social media and nutrition.  She is the creator and host of #RDChat on Twitter and was recently named one of the top 20 nutrition influencers on Twitter by the Huffington Post.

Based in Chicago, Helm is a communications consultant and freelance nutrition journalist, contributing to the Chicago Tribune, Cooking Light magazine, and other publications. She is the author of The Food Lover’s Healthy Habits Cookbook.

Helm received a bachelor’s degree in mass communications and nutrition and a master’s degree in dietetics from Kansas State University. She is an active member of the American Dietetic Association, International Association of Culinary Professionals, and Les Dames d’ Escoffier.

Helm lives in Chicago with her husband and 9-year-old twins.
