Katherine Swartz, PhD, is a professor of health economics and policy at the Harvard School of Public Health. Her research interests for the past 30 years have focused on people without health insurance, how regulations of insurance markets might work to increase access to health insurance, and more recently, on policy issues related to the elderly.
Swartz was president of the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management in 2009, and is a member of the Institute of Medicine and the National Academy of Social Insurance. Swartz received her PhD in economics from the University of Wisconsin in 1976 and her BS in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1972.
