How can drinking and eating enough calcium help prevent kidney stones?

ANSWER

It can be confusing. High calcium levels can give you a stone. But so can not getting enough calcium. That’s because lack of calcium boosts the level of oxalates in your pee, and oxalates can cause kidney stones.

It’s best to get your calcium from foods and beverages rather than supplements.
