Did Johnny Carson have COPD?

ANSWER

Yes. He died in 2005 from respiratory failure due to emphysema. The iconic host of The Tonight Show began smoking cigarettes while serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He never quit. After the war, Carson landed a job as a writer for Red Skelton in Hollywood. When Jack Paar vacated his late-night TV show in 1962, Carson took over the role and dominated the ratings for three decades until his retirement in 1992.
