Oct. 26, 2021 -- English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran says that he’s tested positive for COVID-19 -- days before the release of his new album and about two weeks before his scheduled appearance on Saturday Night Live.

“Hey guys. Quick note to tell you that I’ve sadly tested positive for Covid, so I’m now self-isolating and following government guidelines,” he wrote on Instagram Sunday.

“It means that I’m now unable to plough ahead with any in person commitments for now, so I’ll be doing as many of my planned interviews/performances I can from my house. Apologies to anyone I’ve let down. Be safe everyone x”

According to Good Morning America, Sheeran’s newest studio album, "=" (pronounced "Equals") is scheduled to be released this Friday. A concert tour starts April 23.

Sheeran, 30, is scheduled to be the musical guest Nov. 6 on Saturday Night Live, with guest host Kieran Culkin, GMA said. It’s unknown if his positive test will affect that appearance.
