Mehmet C. Oz, MD

Mehmet C. Oz, MD, is professor and vice-chairman of surgery at Columbia University. He is also medical director of the Integrated Medicine Center and director of the Heart Institute, New York Presbyterian/Columbia Medical Center. Oz is the author of Healing from the Heart, and co-author, with Michael Roizen, MD, of YOU: The Owner's Manual : An Insider's Guide to the Body that Will Make You Healthier and Younger. A dual U.S.-Turkish citizen, he sees himself as a bridge between the healing arts of the West and the East.

His research interests include organ preservation, cardiopulmonary bypass, and minimally invasive cardiac surgery. He has authored more than 300 original publications, book chapters, and abstracts, has edited books on ischemia-reperfusion injury and minimally invasive surgery, and has received a patent on an organ preservation solution with several additional patents pending.

Oz received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University (1982) and obtained a joint MD and MBA (1986) from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and Wharton Business School.
