What causes body dysmorphic disorder (BDD)?

ANSWER

Doctors don't know the exact cause. One idea is that the disorder involves a problem with the size or functioning of brain areas that process information about your appearance. The fact that BDD often happens in people with other mental disorders, such as major depression and anxiety, supports a biological basis for BDD.
