What conditions does dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) treat?

ANSWER

Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) is a form of talk therapy that helps you identify and change negative thinking patterns and to change unhelpful behaviors. DBT focuses on high-risk, tough-to-treat people.

It was first designed for those with suicidal behavior and borderline personality disorder. Researchers are studying if DBT be helpful in treating other mental-health conditions, including:

  • mood disorders
  • binge eating
  • ADHD
  • post-traumatic stress disorder
