What is the outlook for people with rumination disorder?

ANSWER

In most cases, infants and young children with rumination disorder will outgrow the behavior and go back to eating normally. For older children, this behavior can continue for months. There is no known way to prevent this disorder, so it helps to keep close tabs on a child’s eating habits to catch the problem early.
