Why is somatic symptom disorder a difficult diagnosis?

ANSWER

Doctors do many tests to rule out other causes before diagnosing SSD, and that can cause a lot of stress and frustration. People may feel unsatisfied when there's no better explanation for their symptoms or if they're told they're overreacting. Stress often leads them to become more worried about their health, and this creates a vicious cycle that can go on for years.
