What should you know about dental care if you have high blood pressure?

ANSWER

If you have heart disease, you may need to take special care with dental treatments. Some high blood pressure drugs can cause dry mouth or change your sense of taste. Calcium channel blockers in particular can cause the gum tissue to swell and overgrow, which makes it hard to chew. You may need to have your teeth cleaned more often. Sometimes, you may need gum surgery called a gingivectomy to remove some gum tissue.
