SPEAKER: Adults aren'tthe only ones who can feelstress. It's a fact of life for kidsof all ages. Some teens even feel more stressthan we do.There are allthe obvious reasons-- homework, tryouts, fightswith their friends. And some stress sources,we don't even have to deal with, like social media.
As much as you'd like to,you can't totally keep stressout of their lives. But you can help them choosehealthy ways to deal with it.When they're tired, everyday stress is harderto handle.Make sure they get at least8 hours of sleep every night--yes, even on weekends.
Just like homework and sports, time to recharge deserves a spotin their schedules.Help them choose something funand relaxing, not just staringat their phones.Exercise helps everyone burnthrough energy and stress. So get them to movethroughout the dayso it adds up to at least60 minutes.
And you can join too, you know.Sometimes, kids just needto know you're there. You can keep it simple. You can chat in the caron the way to practiceor even just sit down with themfor a quick breakfast.Breakfast.
And don't forget yourself. While you're helping your kidschoose healthy ways to handlestress, take your own advice.Your whole family will thankyou.
