As Managing Editor at WebMD Canada, Pat has the responsibility of overseeing the operation of the news division for WebMD in Canada. He supervises a team of journalists responsible for reporting the latest developments in medicine and health policy.

 

Prior to joining WebMD Canada, Pat spent 18 years with The Medical Post, a weekly tabloid newspaper for Canadian physicians and one of the best-read medical publications in Canada. Starting as a reporter on health policy in 1982, Pat served as news editor and managing editor before becoming editor-in-chief of the publication in 1997. As a reporter and editor for The Medical Post, Pat was one of the few Canadian journalists to cover medical politics on a full-time basis and has been reporting on the Canadian health care system since negotiations leading up to the formation of the Canada Health Act.

 

During his time at The Medical Post, Pat won two internal awards for news and editorial writing as well as being a three-time finalist for editorial writing in the Kenneth R. Wilson awards honouring outstanding writing for business publications in Canada.

 

Pat started his journalism career in 1978 with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador. He also spent two years with the twice-weekly community newspaper The North Shore News in North Vancouver. He has contributed to numerous health and medical publications in Canada and abroad on a freelance basis.

 

Pat earned his journalism degree at the Carleton University in Ottawa and also holds a BA in history from Brock University in St. Catharines.
