When are biologics used to treat RA?

ANSWER

When methotrexate or other disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) don’t ease symptoms and inflammation, your doctor may recommend a biologic. These are genetically engineered proteins that block specific parts of the immune system that play a key role in inflammation of rheumatoid arthritis. They may slow or even stop the progression of it.
