If you have RA, your doctor may prescribe you some genetically-engineered proteins.

It may sound weird, but these drugs called biologics can calm your immune system.

Biologics flow through the body in one of two ways, injection or infusion.

If your prescription is for self-injection, you'll receive a disposable syringe or auto-injector.

Every few weeks or months, you'll inject the drug directly into your thigh or abdomen.

If your drug requires infusion, things go a little differently.

Instead of taking your prescription home, you'll go to a clinic where they will set you up with an IV drip.

There are pros and cons to each method. Self-injection can lead to soreness at the injection site and infusions can take up to 4 hours.

But whatever path you take, biologics will start to slow your disease down.
