SPEAKER
Some biologic drugs for RA come in shots, while others are given as IV infusions. If you get shots, your doctor or nurse can give you injections at the doctor's office. They can teach you how to give yourself shots at home. They'll need to show you how to safely store and handle your medicine, too. If you get infusions, you go to the doctor, clinic, or hospital for treatment. They give you medication through a thin needle placed into your vein. It can take up to several hours depending on the type of biologic you're given. Whether you get shots or infusions, how often you'll need to take your medication varies by drug. Once you start your biologic, it may give you relief from your RA symptoms within weeks.
