Richard Furlanetto, MD, PhD

Richard Furlanetto, MD, PhD, is a native of Chicago. He received his bachelor's degree in chemistry from Northwestern University and his MD and PhD degrees from the University of Chicago. Following residency training at Wyler Children’s Hospital in Chicago, Furlanetto received pediatric endocrine training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He held faculty positions at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and Children’s Hospital at Philadelphia before becoming Chief of Pediatric Endocrinology at the University of Rochester in 1989. Furlanetto joined the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation in October of 1999 as Scientific Director. Furlanetto’s clinical interests have centered on growth problems and the care of diabetic children. His research interests have focused on the mechanism of action of insulin in the insulin-like growth factors.
