Robert Heary, MD

Robert Heary, MD, is an assistant professor of neurological surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and director of the Spine Center of New Jersey. Board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery, Heary is one of the only spine surgeons in the U.S. to have completed formal training on disorders of the spine in both orthopaedic and neurological surgery. Heary has published extensively in peer-reviewed journal articles in the fields of both neurological and orthopaedic surgery. In addition, he has written numerous chapters on subjects relating to spinal surgery and has presented scientific works at neurosurgical, orthopaedic, and combined spinal surgery national meetings. He specializes in complex and reconstructive spine surgery and is especially interested in spinal disorders, including herniated discs, spinal stenosis, tumors, trauma, infections, and spinal deformities. Heary is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgery, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and the Joint Section on Disorders of the Spine and Peripheral Nerves. He has served on numerous committees in each of these national organizations. Recently, Heary was honored by his neurosurgical peers, who named him in American Health magazine as one of the Best Doctors in America.
