When can I use an IUD? and so there's a string with the IUD that allows for bacteria to go up into your uterus and out the fallopian tubes and cause a possibility of pelvic inflammatory disease and infertility. So I wouldn't put it into a young girl who hasn't had their family, and I would put it into someone who is at the point where they've had their kids and they say they are done, and it's a great form of birth control. They don't have to think about. And, like I said the new Mirena IUD can even make their periods lighter. And most women are thrilled. They don't want heavier periods, they want lighter periods.
