Sheldon Marks, MD

Sheldon H.F. Marks, MD, is a leading microsurgical specialist in vasectomy reversals and best-selling author. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Urology and director at the International Center for Vasectomy Reversal. He has been writing for WebMD since 2005.

He began performing microsurgical reversals in 1983 during his general surgery training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Marks completed his urology residency at Tufts University/New England Medical Center in Boston. At the International Center for Vasectomy Reversal in Tucson, AZ, he has had patients from every state in the U.S. and more than 77 countries around the world. He has been on the faculty of Tufts/New England Medical Center and the University of Arizona.

Marks is frequently asked to write and lecture nationally, teaching other urologists from around the world about advances and techniques in vasectomy reversals. Marks has published a number of important papers on vasectomy reversal success, including one demonstrating an impressive 99.5% success using an instrument he invented, the Marks Vas Cutting Forceps. In another paper, he confirmed a high level of success in men from 20 to 35 years after vasectomy, and he holds the world record with a man, 42 years from vasectomy, that resulted in a daughter.

He is a member of a number of national and international fertility and urologic societies, including the Society of Reproductive Surgeons, the American Society of Andrology, the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, the Society for the Study of Male Reproduction, the Society for Male Reproduction and Urology, and the American Urologic Association.
