ANSWER

Acute insomnia, which is short-term, may only need to improve your sleep habits. Try going to bed at the same time every day, making sure you get 7-8 hours of sleep, avoiding caffeine too late in the day -- basically, making sleep a top health priority. If your insomnia makes it hard for you to function during the day because you're too sleepy and tired, your doctor may consider prescribing sleeping pills for a limited time. Avoid using over-the-counter sleeping pills for insomnia.
