What are symptoms of periodic limb movement disorder?

ANSWER

The most common symptoms people with PLMD notice are poor sleep and daytime sleepiness. They're often unaware of their leg movements unless their bed partner tells them.

The movements can involve one or both legs:

  • Typically the knee, ankle, and big toe joints all bend
  • Vary from slight to wild kicking and thrashing
  • Last about 2 seconds
  • Repeat every 20-40 seconds
