Who gets sleep apnea?

ANSWER

Sleep apnea can affect anyone at any age, even children. You might be more likely to get it if:

  • You're male
  • You're overweight
  • You're over 40
  • Your neck size is 17 inches or greater in men or 16 inches or greater in women
  • You have large tonsils, a large tongue, or a small jaw bone
  • You have a family history of sleep apnea
  • You have a nasal obstruction due to a deviated septum, allergies, or sinus problems
