Michael Breus, PhD: So one of the things that we are learning now is that protein can have a pretty big effect on sleep. So, if you are on a high protein diet, one of the things we know is that actually can be very alerting. Whereas, if you are on a higher carbohydrate right before bed, that can actually make you more sleepy. I like people to have a carbohydrate and slight protein rich bedtime snack. So peanut butter crackers is a perfect example. Believe it or not, a piece of apple pie, Uh with ice cream would be a great one. A bowl of cereal would be perfect. So things like that are things that you can, because you don't want to go to bed hungry, because that will prevent you from sleeping, but you don't want to go to bed overly full because then you can have the reflux.
