What is holy basil and why do people use it?

ANSWER

It’s related to the common sweet basil used in cooking. Holy basil is used in traditional Chinese and Indian medicine. Researchers don’t have enough proof that holy basil helps and, if so, how. Some people take it for:

  • The common cold
  • Bronchitis
  • Earache
  • Fever
  • Flu
  • Increased blood circulation
  • Kidney problems
  • Skin problems
  • Snake bites
  • Stomach problems
