I started using this -- two tablespoons in the morning and two in mid-afternoon. I have lost 40 lbs in just a few months and plan to lose another 15 to get to my ideal body weight of around 210. I am 6'2" tall, age 58. I workout regularly 1 hour of cardio 5 x a week and 30 minutes of weights 3 days per week. This is an amazing supplement.

How long will WebMD reject serious studies on supplements that have scientific backing and continue to say 'there is no good evidence' when there is?? https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31701550/

Adderall downregulates and damages the brain. I also have issues with daytime sleepiness (suspect comorbid with Sluggish Cognitive Tempo) which exacerbate ADHD symptoms. I have found with Acetyl-L-Carnitine I am able to concentrate longer as I get sleepy. Making me productive sometimes for an additional 2,3, or even 4 hours. Which affords me the option of taking less Adderall and less breaks. Which slows the accumulated downregulation and damage from Adderall. Goal is to ultimately get off Adderall altogether. But will take a long time to accomplish. I think most supplements are over hyped. This is one of the rare ones that I was able to notice an actual effect. I purchase mine as a bulk powder which makes it quite affordable compared to many others. Take 1/2 teaspoon unpacked twice a day. Started with 600mg capsules.Read More Read Less

Had distal gastric bypass 20+ years ago. I was having severe fatigue and loss of muscle strength and could not gain strength regardless of exercise. I started Carnitine and feel so much better and have gained muscle mass and strength. I still fatigue but appropriate to workload.

This site doesn't include it as a usage, but there's significant (meta-analysis) evidence that acetyl-l-carnitine can improve cognition. It mediates transportation of medium and long-chain fatty acids across mitochondrial membranes. It's also an antioxidant that slows decay of mitochondria (in animals, have never seen any evidence of that in humans though). I.E., according to a meta-analysis posted in PubMed called Meta-analysis of double blind randomized controlled clinical trials of acetyl-L-carnitine versus placebo in the treatment of mild cognitive impairment and mild Alzheimer's disease (Stuart A Montgomery, L J Thal, R Amrein): Meta-analysis showed a significant advantage for Alcar compared to placebo for the integrated summary effect [ES =0.201, 95% confidence interval (CI)=0.107-0.295]. I've been using it (and others) for 10+ years to alleviate cognitive deficits acquired by a life-threatening head injury. Originally given a prognosis of never being able to work or go to school ever again, my cognition has improved enough that my neuropsychological assessment now scores comparable to university graduates for most forms of cognition.Read More Read Less

As a 74-year-old male I started taking L-Carnitine 500 Mg during my twice weekly 36-mile road bicycle rides. It took about 6 weeks to notice a difference, but I progressively grew stronger. After 3 months of taking the supplement, I am completing the ride approximately 11 minutes faster then before taking L-Carnitine. I am a true believer in the product.

I started taking supplements a while ago, but skipping carnitine because I thought I would get it through my diet, probably the worse supplement to pass up on as the results were extremely good and immediate for me. I have bad inflammation, didn't take carnitine for it but it stopped the inflammation about 20 minutes after taking it. I had a minor gut pain issue and it went away as soon as I started taking this. I work out and instead of muscles being sore during and after they were not sore and I could work out longer. Made me feel good right after taking it, a feeling of extreme confidence, makes sense because I have read that with low levels of carnitine you will have severe cognitive decline. Also reduced swelling. This is the best supplement of all time, for me personally. If you do get it try to find it in it's pure form, in pill form they're probably selling you mostly rice powder as a filler.Read More Read Less

I started taking this supplement strictly to improve my athletic performance in the gym. I started to plateau in the gym and started taking The l-carnitine supplement in 1000 mg doses once a day six days a week. I have noticed several improvements. My squats have improved by 50 pounds, and I have doubled my cardio performance due to reduced fatigue. In the past, I have had trouble sleeping and normally would get between four and six hours of sleep per night. Since I started the l-carnitine supplement I have consistently gotten between seven and eight hours of sleep. I have put on a lot of muscle and lost a lot of fat, so my weight has stayed the same but my physique is a lot more muscular. I have not experienced any side effects to speak of. My supplement stack is a multivitamin, volcano force factor, fish oil, acidophilus, l-carnitine, BCAAs, HMB, and proteins shakes. The results I have experienced or from taking the l-carnitine over the last three months.Read More Read Less

WAS HAVING PALPITATIONS/ARRHYTHMIA AFTER BEING ON KETO DIET. CARDIOLOGIST FOUND NOTHING STRUCTURALLY OR OTHERWISE THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN CAUSING THESE, SO AFTER SOME RESEARCH I TRIED L-CARNITNINE WITH CO-Q10 FISH OIL AND MAGNESIUM, AFTER A FEW DAYS THE SITUATION RESOLVED ITSELF, I NOW USE IT EVERYDAY. IT MAY NOT HAVE BEEN THIS COMBINATION BUT IT IS CHEAP INSURANCE FOR THAT CONDITION TO BE GONE, SO I AM A BELIVEVER.

Reading these reviews, l-carnitine obviously has different effects on each person. On the days that I took it, only 125mg a day, carnitine soon made me feel very unpleasantly hyper (like "speed"), so badly that I craved a drink to calm my nerves (I was a totally recovered alcoholic until that point). I have lost weight (30 lbs in a year), but I think my paleo diet was the major factor - prob. already getting plenty of carnitine from all the meat I eat - so supplementing was actually too much of it. L-carnitine did not improve my muscle aches/pains - in fact, I often felt an "acid-like burning" while taking it. The new research that finds carnitine may be a possible factor in atherosclerosis closed the case for me: No more of this supp. for me - ever.Read More Read Less

Why didn't i get anything productive done today? Oh wait i know why, i forgot to take my l-carnitine today -me, an Engineering student with Adhd. The effect for me is that i dont feel mentally fatigued nearly as quickly as without this. It has no effect on my ability to ignore distractions though, unlike proper adhd medication.

Starting taking and about 2-3 days later felt more energy then I have for years had starting getting from Wal-Mart but then found it less expensive on line at Amazon. I have taken the Amazon product and have not felt the energy as much but still 100% more active than before but one day I did notice my new slacks bought just before starting that fit a little tight fell off so I went and got a smaller size from the closet and tried to walk downstairs and could not keep them on they were too big and baggy so I went to the next size down and it is loose and baggy but I can function. I then started checking weigh and measurements. I am watching what I eat and mainly on vegetarian with salmon 2 x weekly to help lower my cholesterol. My measurements confirmed by my husband in just this week has gone down 3 inch's bust, 2 inch's in my waist and 3 inch's in my hips. My weight has gone down about a pound but I did have 2 cheat days this week due to family outings. So I went from a size 14-16 to a size 8 with very little exercise as I have a broken hip. I have not taken it long enough to have my cholesterol checked. Total time on medication is about 4-6 weeks.Read More Read Less

After hours of cardio: no result but fatigue. I do have to consider malabsorption so l-carnitine seems an option to support my cardiotraining. My first impression is that it helps recover muscle damage and it seems to suppress hunger. At day 2 I already lost 2 kg. I believe this is due to 'water' retention and/or the optimalisation of waste disposal. I lost 2 kg in two days (water? waste?). I have more energy, hunger is suppressed and some muscle sores are gone. This is day 3 where I rejoin the gym (It may yet prove that the intestines get active making me pauze the workout for a visit to the toilets). I started using this supplement as part of my weight loss regime. I lift regular heavy weights and cardio for atleast 30+ mins. 5 days a week. L carnitine has helped me in doing more workout time without much fatigue which I used to feel earlier doing the same exercise regime. I am also able to loose fat around the belly area. Really like the product.

Improvement of brain fog, fatigue, ability to stay on track and finish tasks. Improved mood swings anxiety and appetite. Did not help with muscle and joint pain. Taking low dose (500ml) per day, 1 capsule before breakfast. Tried increasing to 1000ml per day but experienced severe fatigue so discontinued after 3 weeks and returned to 500ml per day.

I was taking 500 mg of L-carnatine as a gel tab. It makes me nauseous, unable to focus, and get a bad headache. It also makes me voraciously hungry. I realized after I was taking it as part of the GNC Women's Ulta Mega Active Vitapak and I'd feel sick. I stopped taking the packs and started taking them one at a time, and the L-carnatine was what was making me feel bad. Over all, the packs did help me lose weight. I'm 5'3 and 109 lbs.

There's been anxiety over one study saying L- Carnitine is harmful. Look at the Mayo Clinic's review of 13 studies saying otherwise, including a recent one showing "decreased mortality"in users of over 30%...Many doctors have articles explaining the problems with the mouse study, such as sample size. I would suggest that people worried about it avoid red meat. Fatigue is so crippling that some people need this to have quality life.
