I have Insomnia for over a year now (could not sleep at all). Offcourse used sleeping pills and my doctor discribed anti-depressiva. But i don't have a depression so i don't want to take them..Only one thing helps and that is L Tryptophan (800 - 1000mg). (Tried 5HTP as well). It puts me to sleep! 6 hours sleep for me know! Little bit side effects like: sometimes a little sleepy during the day, hea...

Trying to avoid using Ambien so I've tried many natural supplements including Gaba,Valerian, Melatonin for insomnia/apnea but have not worked for me, just started L Tryptophan and it worked immediately for me.

I only took 100 mg and I was ill......i didnt have side effects.....I had all the symptoms of EMS....i had muscle cramps mainly in my thighs....tremors.....pain in my shoulder, neck and upper arm.....blood pressure changes....respitory changes...palpitations...sweating...rash on my arms and neck......extreme drowsiness and agitation.....altogether a very uncomfortable experience.....I would seriously not recommend this to anyone looking for serotonin......it actually made me more depressed and its long half life of 12 meant it took a long time to clear my system.....I actually felt as though I had been poisoned.....it is the best way I can describe my experience with Tryptophan......MY ADVICE IS STEER CLEAR OF TRYTOPHANRead More Read Less

I took a dose of 1g a night although my MD stated I could take as much as 4g/night, if required. About 40 minutes prior to my bedtime, I would take it. Then, I would gradually feel drowsy, as if someone was pulling my eyelids closed. The best part about this treatment is that if you have to wake up and be functional, you can be, unlike other sleeping pills which cause a sleep hangover and inability to drive, if needed. This was also useful to some extent in controlling chronic pain. I found it worked best for me when I took it with a light carb snack, such as a piece of fruit. Read More Read Less

I started using it to help me sleep, and also to combat depression and sugar cravings. It seems to have helped for the most part.

I am shocked that this website keeps associating L-Tryptophan with Eosinophilia–myalgia syndrome (EMS). It was found to have nothing to do with Tryptophan but was caused by contamination thought to be from one manufacturer in Japan. So it`s not actually a risk associated with Tryptophan or 5-HTP. I found this to be very effective for long-term depression and Seasonal Affective Disorder. It also helped me to quit smoking cold turkey. From chain smoking all day, I am now nicotine free!

I began taking this supplement on the advice of my wellness chiropractor to have more restful sleep. I have taken it for 7 days and have seen a decrease in the number of times I wake in the night and an increase in the ease of getting back to sleep if I do wake up. I have much fewer "racing thoughts" when I wake and seem to fall back asleep much more quickly than before I stared taking L-tryptophan.

I have been using L-Tryptophan against bipolar depression for 30 years. It is very effective. My symptoms return if I stop taking it. When I first started taking it (for sleep) my bipolar symptoms vanished immediately. I take 40 mg/Kg on an empty stomach with carbs (banana or glass of OJ) every morning.

I use L-Tryptophan from Liftmode to aid in sleep. It really does help. It helps to relax you and helps you to stay asleep.

I've had ongoing insomnia for years. My bedside table has a basket of pills. I take melatonin, passion flower and calcium / magnesium / zinc most nights. It's a good combo for me to sleep, but the quality doesn't compare to l-tryptophan. Tryptophan seems you to a deep state of sleep with vivid dreams. I've only tried one brand Jarrow at 500 mg.

I was diagnosed with Apnea many years ago. Even put on C-PAP for a couple of years. I lost 40 pounds and my masseuse told me about L-Tryptophan...I was astonished. Not every night but those I feel restless I take 500mg and I have slept through the night and woke rested each time. Wouldn't recommend a daily thing as you might just get reliant on it or it may not be effective but, if you want a good nights sleep...this stuff does the trick.

After the birth of my second child, I struggled with staying asleep, even when the baby slept through the night with no waking. I had no trouble going to sleep, but midway through the night, I'd toss & turn & never really drift down into true sleep. The effect was debilitating in the daytime with impaired focus, reasoning & memory function. My PMDD in the past was characterized by mood issues, but for some reason the second pregnancy set off a new set of imbalances that affect my sleep/wake cycles. I began taking just one of the triptophan before bed & I've had MIRACULOUS results. My sleep is not plagued by the constant chatter of the mind & I wake feeling refreshed & ready. Also, as a side note, when I've had to get up in the middle of the night to tend to the baby, I've been alert & effective. No super groggy feeling at allRead More Read Less

In the late 1980s, I was put on 3000mg L-Tryptophan by a sleep medicine physician and with it, I did not need prescription sleep medication. It was then taken off the market in 1990 and I had to go back on Prescriptions. Depression became a problem. Migraines worsened. All had been fully addressed while on L-Tryptophan. I was told 5-HTP would help. It does not...no matter how high a dose. I am now, for the past 4 weeks, on L-Tryptophan for sleep and gradually increase the dose as the dosing of prescription meds is being cut. After 4 weeks, I am on 1/6 of the dose of prescription sleep meds and currently taking 3500 mg of L-tryptophan. I get a good night sleep most every night and rarely need to add extra med to get back to sleep with this supplement at this level. I do notice that I have more acid reflux with this.Read More Read Less

Been taking this for a few weeks and have noticed an improved quality of sleep. I picked some up from Liftmode...it was half the price of l-tyrosine found locally in stores. Definelty an amazing aid for insomniacs!

Over the last 30 years I have taken several anti-depressant types of drugs (first MAOs,then trycyclics, and finally SSRIs),but none have helped me with my depression ,anxiety, and OCD as much as l-tryptophan. And with no side effects !
