The Gelsemium that webmd is speaking of is the actual plant. It is poisonous to take as it causes extreme prostration and paralysis which can lead to death. However, what's available online that is safe are homeopathic formulas. A homeopathic formula treats the similar symptoms the plant causes if ingested whole. Hence, the homeopathic dilution of gelsemium will treat the extreme prostration that accompanies the flu. I have used homeopathic dilutions, many times, with great success. Using 30c or 3ox homeopathic dilutions of Gelsemium is completely safe. I have used it for extreme prostration due to flu. Always with great results. Take a dose every 15 minutes for 3 doses then a dose 3x a day for 3 or 4 days and see if it helps. If it's the right remedy for you and your situation, it will help, sometimes within minutes. Don't be scared by these warnings, Gelsemium, along with any pharmaceutical, is beneficial in very small dosages. I have taken Gelsemium for my Vertigo and it has already begun to improve my symptoms. Gelsemium has no adverse effects if highly diluted (30x) and soaked in alcohol, or what's known as a alcohol tincture. These warnings are for the plant at its simplest form, equivalent to picking it up off the ground and eating it.

Waking in the middle of the night with a sore throat, neck pain, weak 'sinking-like' feeling, chills up and down my spine, overactive brain preventing me from sleeping for over an hour but feeling too weak to get up, I finally pulled my tremuluous body out of bed, popped a couple of Gelsemium 2ooc pillules under my tongue and within 5 minutes had drifted peacefully back to sleep to awake about 4 hours later feeling completely well!
