I developed a wound on my achilles heel area. The wound care clinic had me use a protocol that included cleaning with normal saline, cleaning with VASHE, surrounding the wound with zinc oxide, treating the wound with first Mupirocin ointment then covering that with Medihoney. After a dressing was applied I was instruced to use this procedure once a day. The first week was fine but the second week ...

My son suffers from chronic skin asthma. He would manifest boils and furuncles spontaneously on different parts of his body. At one time when he was about 14 and we were managing his skin asthma wounds with dermatologist-prescribed topical ointments and cream, he developed a particular severe big boil in the middle of his upper back that hurt him a lot and made us bring him to the hospital for emergency treatment. The interns took turns in cleaning his wound by digging through his skin and even though they were generally gentle at doing so, the more senior ones had to take more aggressive action in pulling out all the pus. My son suffered a great deal of pain from that experience and I vowed to look for better treatment management for his condition thereafter. We tried applying raw honey over his next boils and we were surprised to get the following results: 1. His boil would stiffen and become painful. Upon boil break-up, we put raw honey over it. Around 5 to 10 minutes later, the boil would soften significantly and the pus turned into a lump with sufficient consistency for being pulled out safely. We put more honey over the wound of the boil and it healed overnight. 2. The success rate of this treatment has been 100% effective and has even led him to become independent at treating himself. 3. We noted that the wounds treated with honey showed generally better skin healing characteristics than with the medical ointments and creams as there were visibly less evidential scarring. 4. The raw honey treatment proved to be more cost-effective and sustainable than any of his prescribed drugs. My son also felt much less guilt over using honey than with the expensive drugs that he was previously given. This made him happier. Read More Read Less

I have 2 large, non healing wounds located on the side of my ankle and the back of my leg. I believe it was a result of a Vibrio or similar water pathogen that caused the wound to slowly grow to expose my calf's tendon. During the initial infection, pain was disproportionately high and I tried Medihoney as one of the potential dressings when I enrolled at the city's advanced wound care center. The honey caused a very pronounced stinging that was intolerable after about an hour. I was forced to use Santyl for debridement and dressing. Later, when the wound was less inflamed and painful, I tolerated the Medihoney much better and was satisfied with it's results. I would not recommend this for initial treatment of very painful or inflamed wounds until the wound site has settled down somewhat, after which it is better tolerated...at least in my case. My infection has been going on for roughly 18 months. After treatment with IV antibiotics, sharp debridement as well as Santyl/Enzyme debridement, I am seeing some healing, although my tendon is still exposed. I am using the Medihoney currently and have no burning from it and the healing continuesRead More Read Less

The first week was fine but the second week I was awakened numerous times during the night with a stabbing pain in the wound. It felt like a needle was being stuck in the wound over and over. This was also occuring during the daytime. It became so painful I could not walk or sleep without a lot of pain. The nurse at the wound care clinic said that a very few people develope a reaction that feels like it is burning the wound and advised me to stop using it. Within minutes of cleaning and redressing the wound without the Medihoney, the pain was gone. Please be aware that this level of pain is not normal for the healing process and if you have it you should consult with your doctor. Read More Read Less

When I read this, I thought honey can replace the sugar. So I use it since I have prediabetes. But I feel it is not right. My blood sugar level is still going up. I eat Costco organic honey.

Only raw honey will not raise my glucose....I personally have not tried regular processed honey to see if that will raise my glucose or not.

For years I have used honey as a wound dressing. As an avid cyclist I have used road rash for side by side comparison of healing rates between honey or otc antibiotic ointment. Honey was significantly superior in rate of recovery and less scarring. I also use it for burns and sunburns mixed with raw Aloe Vera. I also use essential oils in combination with honey at times.

Me and my 3 &5 year olds have the flu with severe night time coughing. OTC meds aren't working and their pediatrician recommended warm liquid with honey. At 1:30am my 3 yo woke from his coughing and I chose to make warm tea sweetened with raw local honey. It is 2am now, he is asleep and neither of us are coughing! I'm pretty stoked as we have gone threw several costly bottles of Deslym with no real relief. I understand coughing does move the mucus out of the air way. But we need our rest to. My mom uses local raw honey in her coffee to ward off seasonal allergies for two years now and I've noticed she's not constantly rubbing her eyes or trapping herself indoors anymore. I will definitely try honey for a wound treatment. Hope this helps someone.Read More Read Less

My use for organic raw honey is quite different from everyone else's use. I suffered with great fatigue for several years cause unknown. I used phentermine for many years to combat this fatigue and live as normal of life as possible. Fearing the possible long term effects of phentermine I chose to stop taking the pill and looked for a healthier all natural solution. By accident I found that taking raw honey on a spoon 3 to 4 times a day helped reduce the withdrawing effects of stopping the phentermine abruptly and have me the energy I needed to do the normal daily tasks everyone seems to take for granted they are able to do. Now several years later I still dip a spoon in raw honey 1 or 2 times a day and still feel great. It is important to note that although all the lab results from my doctor always came back "normal" after several months on just the honey I added my own vitamin supplements to my daily intake and I'm feeling like I'm in my 20's again. My husband is diabetic. He got a sore on his lower leg. I gave him the manuka honey to apply to his skin. We put dressing over it. Within a day or two, the wound was healed. We were VERY impressed. We've used it ever since.

I'm a 42 old man that has had acne since early teenage years. I've taken every medication prescribed for it. I've done the accutane treatment twice. I've tried almost all soaps & watched what I've eaten with little success. After using honey as a face mask for 15 to 30 minutes every other night has cleared my skin & sped up recovery. Its not a cure all, but works with great success.

I also have had much success with raw honey on bad wounds on myself and my cat. Healing was seemingly fast and helped avoid much infection. Good stuff!

I have used RAW honey on cuts and wounds on not only myself but as well on an animal, cat. The honey not only healed the wounds far faster than normal but also left little to no scarring. It's also non-toxic!
