use of guar gum not only lowered my total cholesterol from 179 to 154 over 6 weeks, but lowered the post-meal spike in blood sugar. I make 2 qts at a time in an empty 32oz yogurt container. simply first add water, then the flavorings of choice, sugar substitute, and enough guar gum to thicken to a gel-like consistency; mix with mixer, and eat for a snack before, with, or after meals.

I can't believe that guar gum is being prescribed as a medication. That seems crazy to me. It makes me sick to my stomach, for days, and it causes a severe skin reaction with only the smallest amount.

Gaur gum can cause severe allergic reactions. In my case I developed the most painful skin allergy Every pore was infected with a glue like gum. It would stick to my skin and the only way I found relief was to see a natural path who diagnosed me with the allergy. Once I avoided all products and foods containing guar gum the glue slowly started to come out of my skin. It was like chewing gum, and I found Vaseline and camomile lotion helpful . The Vaseline helped soften the glue like substance and the lotion helped to lift the stuff from my skin and pores. This is and has been the most painful and frustrating experience in my 67 years. If u have a bean or pea allergy STAY AWAY from gaur gum.I still do not know if my face and body will be covered in scars and dryness from the tight hold this product has on my skin. It was like I covered my entire body including my scalp with contact cement. Some of it rolled off my skin just the same way glue could. My bowels became totally constipated as I am sure the gluey gaur gum is blocking my stools and when I do go it is yellow.I am on a Carroll Diet and take vit. A, C,B, and magnesium in large quantities. I had never heard of guar gum until I was diagnosed. Read More Read Less

Fibers are supposed to help reduce cholesterol- tried taking several singly, none had any effect. Started with 1 heaping spoon of milled chia and milled flaxseed, one rounded spoon of pectin and psyllium, one slightly rounded spoon of guar gum. Cholesterol dropped from 234 to 181 in 6 months. DO NOT start taking these amounts all at once, esp the guar gum. You will have severe gas pains and/or diarrhea. Was taking prescribed colestipol which is really nothing more then a fiber. Had zero effect on cholesterol. Taking any of these by themselves had zero effect. I've been trying for years to bring down high cholesterol without statins. This worked. I'm 58 now, and since first measured at age 38, my cholesterol has never been below 210 until now. I also gave up low fat low cholesterol foods as I started this fiber combination. Use real butter, eat eggs more often, etc. I eat what I like.Read More Read Less

GUAR GUM HAS BEEN INTRODUCED INTO MANY FOODS AS AN ADDITIVE. I BECAME VERY SICK AFTER EATING A BROCCOLI CHEESE SOUP WITH ONLY GUAR GUM ADDED. I STARTED GETTING A SORE THROAT FOLLWED BY SWELLING IN MY THROAT AND FEELING LIKE THERE WAS A LARGE LUMP IN MY THROAT THAT I COULD NOT SWALLOW.THEN I HAD VOMITING AND DIARRHEA AND A VERY BAD TASTE IN MY MOUTH AND COMING UP FROM MY STOMACH.THIS WAS ONLY RELIEVED SOMEWHAT BY DRINKING VINEGAR IN A LITTLE WATER FOR SEVERAL DAYS.I STRONGLY URGE THE FOOD PRODUCTION TO STOP PUTTING GUAR GUM IN OUR FOODS, ESPECIALLY PROCESSED FOODS AND SURVIVAL FOODS! it should NOT be used in any foods, eaten by normal people who dont have high blood pressure, or diabetes, or constipation. THE GUAR GUM CAUSED EXTREME ALLERGIC AND SENSITIVE REACTION TO IT, RENDERING THE FOODS THAT CONTAINED IT completely INEDIBLE. I urge the FDA to ban guar gum from food.Read More Read Less

I have prediabetes, and I use 3/4 tsp in 8 oz water (well mixed) before lunch and eat a normal lunch including sandwiches, pizza, etc. I don't use it at breakfast because I eat a smoothie and it usually would not be unhealthy. I have started doing more frequent glucose monitoring so that I can evaluate the effect of the guar gum (which I found in the food additive section of a health food store, not near the laxatives and supplements) to keep the glucose down. It is part of a comprehensive program I am trying that also includes 30 min or more of exercise per day, calorie restriction, weight loss and avoidance of sugar.Read More Read Less
